Fishing the Door You could go fishing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every week of the year, somewhere in Door County, and expect to catch something. Salmon, trout, walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskies, perch, and rock bass all lurk in the waters of the area. With 300 miles of shoreline on Lake Michigan and Green Bay, and four accessible inland lakes, fishing opportunities abound from Rock Island and Washington Island in the north, all across the Door Peninsula. Your tackle can be as simple and relaxing as a cane pole and a worm off a dock, or as complex as a fully rigged offshore charter boat. You can wade or paddle the shallows with canoe and kayak, jig the drop-offs, or troll a hundred feet down. Licensed charter captains and guides can lead you to the action aboard their fully equipped boats. If you prefer, you can purchase bait and tackle locally or bring your own boat and favorite lures. The Door County Fishing Report updates the action daily throughout the summer season. If you are the competitive type, the Door-Kewaunee Salmon Derby, Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament, Baileys Harbor Brown Trout Derby, and several ice fishing derbies offer fun, prizes, and good food. And in the winter, you can fish through the ice of Green Bay from the warmth of a shanty or ice tent. - L ynn Frederick ■ STILETTO SAILING CRUISES p.o.
