Lakeside Park, located on Highway 57 in the heart of the community, offers a great beach for swimming in a family-friendly setting with picnic facilities, restrooms, and children’s play area. Shops, restaurants, and groceries are within walking distance. Just north of town, Meridian Park lies exactly halfway between the SWIMMING equator and the North Pole. AT CAVE POINT Two of the great parks in Door County are located just a few miles south of Jacksonport. Head © Mike Swanson south out of Jacksonport on Highway 57 and turn left on Cave Point Road. Drive 3 miles and you’ll find the side-by-side entrances to Cave Point Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. At Cave Point, stand on the rocky bluff and watch Lake Michigan carve sea caves beneath your feet. Whitefish Dunes has more than a mile of sandy beaches, the highest sand dunes in Wisconsin, and 14 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and skiing. It also has a nature center with a bookstore. Jacksonport is a small town with a big appetite for fun. The county’s festival season starts here on January 1st at noon sharp when a large crowd gathers at Lakeside Park to watch hundreds of human polar bears take an icy dash into Lake Michigan. On Memorial Day weekend, Maifest kicks off the summer season with a parade, softball tournament, music, horse-pulling contest, arts, crafts, food booths and family fun. Art on the Quiet Side is always held the weekend closest to the 4th of July with an arts and crafts fair, food and family fun. On the first Saturday in August, the annual Cherry Fest celebrates the harvest of Door County’s delicious red cherries with a juried art fair, music, food and fun for the whole family! The waterfront still is the focal point of activity for this year-round vacation village with its popular restaurants, shops, and boating activities. Sister Bay is proud of its heritage and continues to work hard to preserve historic sites while blending in modern amenities. The Old Anderson House, for instance, was hauled across the ice of Green Bay in 1895 and lovingly restored in recent years into a MARINA FEST IN museum on the south edge of the village. The Sister Bay Marina, SISTER BAY completely rebuilt in 1993, includes showers, restrooms, 100 slips and modern marina services. © Len Villano Quality shops and galleries abound downtown as well as in a complex of stores that lies at the south entrance to the village. All that Door County has to offer in terms of recreation and entertainment can be found in the immediate area or just minutes away. During the Door County Festival of Blossoms each May, Sister Bay celebrates spring with flair. In addition to a children’s parade, arts & crafts, storytelling and a bonfire with live entertainment, the village has a colorful maypole raising ceremony. Beach Park Pavilion, in the heart of the village waterfront district, hosts free concerts on Wednesday afternoons during the summer. And nobody celebrates autumn like Sister Bay with its annual Fall Festival, a Door County tradition for nearly 60 years. The waterfront is packed with people enjoying the music, food, parade, fireworks, soap box derby, helicopter rides, arts and crafts booths and a ping-pong ball drop with prizes.
