You can make a wish at El tiradito on your way there. Recreational swim is sun.-thurs., noon-6pm and the pool’s number is 791-4167. taking the kids out to see the wildlife on Fourth avenue? If they get cranky from summer’s heat, Catalina Wading Pool awaits just minutes up the street at 900 n. 4th ave. in catalina Park. dipping their toes in the small round pool could just make a difference in the lil’ munchkins’ mood. (dairy Queen might help, too.) catalina wading is open Mon.-Fri., 10am-3pm and can be reached at 791-4903. Each of the five downtown pools described here offer only free-for-all, open,recreational swim hours. For adult lap and family swim options, two additional pools can be found within a short distance of downtown. Himmel Pool at 1000 n. tucson Blvd. in Himmel Park has a mellow, peaceful atmosphere, with an adult lap time of tues.-Fri., noon-1pm and family swim 5:30pm-7pm. It also has picnic ramadas and a “beach entry” wading pool. nearby attractions include the one-of-a-kind casa Video and Baskin Robbins! Recreational swim hours at Himmel are tues.-Fri., 1pm-5pm and sat. noon-7pm. check in with Himmel at 791-4157. Finally, Mansfield Pool, at 2000 n. 4th ave. in Mansfield Park, allows for adult lap tues.-Fri., 11:30-12:30pm. their recreational hours are tues.-sat., 1pm-7pm. Mansfield has high and low diving boards, a towering water slide, and an adjacent playground courtesy of the northwest neighborhood center. In the water, kids of all ages and sizes frolic and belly-flop their summers away, and the dt found this pool to be the most crowded of all those we visited. the more the merrier! Mansfield’s contact number is 791-4405. all pools reviewed are seasonal. the city also operates heated, year-round pools and offers swim and diving les- sons for kids and adults, junior lifeguarding, inner tube water polo and other programs. the city of tucson Parks and Recreation aquatics can be found at www.tucsonaz.gov/ parksandrec/aquatics and general information can be obtained by dialing 791-4245.
