In fact, 45 percent have no formal collaboration programs at all, but 34 percent are conducting training to try and improve such practices. M O V I N G F O R WA R D Most companies have big plans for their sustainable programs and the number of new sustainable products is expected to grow significantly in the next three years. There are challenges, however, with these new products, which include price, lack of understanding of benefits, insufficient or ineffective marketing, and lack of knowledge of sustainability issues. These challenges will hopefully be resolved FIGURE 2 in time as the importance of sustainability becomes more inherent in the public eye, and should match the intended growth of these products by CG manufacturers ( see Figure 2). Today only 19 percent of our respondent’s report the majority of their product offerings as sustainable, compared with the planned 38 percent in three years — an impressive 19 percent jump. On the flip side, 56 percent reported less than 10 percent of their product offerings are sustainable today, and that statistic is expected to drop to 15 percent in three years. As long as the financial benefits of being green continue, CG companies look to prove that sustainability is more than a passing fad.
