Retirement is seen not as a turning point when
one stops working and takes up new hobbies, but
as an opportunity for self-reinvention. That kind
of outlook requires careful planning for the future
and, in turn, requires senior living communities to
expand and evolve their level of care and service
to accommodate residents who bring with them a
unique (and high) set of standards.
To answer that, the MonteCedro community
features 186 apartments for independent living,
20 assisted living/memory support residences, inhome care services, a host of common spaces, a
heated saline pool, and landscaped courtyards-all
of which benefit from the adjacent scenery of Mt.
Wilson and Angeles National Forest.

onteCedro is a new senior living
community situated on an expansive
and scenic eight-acre campus in the
Altadena foothills of Southern California. Owned
and operated by Episcopal Communities &
Services (Pasadena, Calif.), MonteCedro opened
in February.
It's one of the first continuing care retirement
communities to be built in Los Angeles County
in more than two decades. Designed by
Perkins Eastman, MonteCedro offers a home
environment for people who are able to, and
in many instances have expressed a desire to,
continue to chart their own path.
The baby boomer generation has a different
set of expectations when it comes to retirement.
1. The cul-de-sac entranceway is
marked by a simple porte cochère
that leads into the building's
hospitality-inspired lobby. As the
property matures, trees and other
plantings will provide additional
shade to the area surrounding the
main entrance. 2. MonteCedro,
situated on eight acres in the
Altadena, Calif., foothills, expands
Episcopal Communities and Services'
offerings in Southern California. 3. Of
MonteCedro's 186 new independent
living apartments, 54 are villas that
surround the outdoor swimming
pool and veranda. The campus' new
residences also include assisted
living/memory care support and
coordinated in-home care.
