SECTION STATEMENTS

HR Section - Thoughts on Vision and Focus
by Kim Robinson

The 2018-19 goals of the HR Section
of GLA ALA will be to continue to help
educate, develop and strengthen our
members with professional development through
educational opportunities, workshops, seminars, and
networking. We are confident that our quarterly sessions
will allow our members to gain HR knowledge and then
return to their firms feeling empowered to manage a
productive and ever-changing work environment. As
Section Leaders, we will continue to listen to the needs
of our members and help broaden their knowledge with
discussion topics that are relevant, new, and exciting,
and all the while providing direction to keep them
compliant and up-to-date with applicable labor and
employment laws.

Our discussion topics are selected to help us:
* Value, encourage, and support a diverse workplace
* Improve organizational effectiveness
* Anticipate and meet the changing needs in the firm
* Champion career and professional growth
* Create and enhance strategic partnerships and
networks; and
* Develop our overall HR departments
For 2019-20, HR Section Meetings will include topics such as compliance
in harassment prevention training, diversity and inclusion, identifying talent,
managing conflict, and general roundtable discussions to address current
topics that affect firm administrators and human resources managers on a
daily basis. Our goal is to set a platform for the next GLA ALA HR section
leaders who will continue to deliver topics that are important, applicable,
fresh, and inspiring.

Membership - Thoughts on Vision and Focus
by Terri Oppelt

Our team is made of up of five members
- Terri Oppelt, CLM, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
(Chair), Michelle Campbell, Shaun Morrison
and Tanya Russell with Debra Gray as our Board Liaison.
This year we will be working to more fully understand
and innovate the member experience with our chapter to
elevate this experience so all members are having their
needs and expectations met as a legal management
professional within the GLA ALA world.

We will be striving to understand more fully why members
join our chapter and what their expectations are, what tools
they are seeking, how they like to engage at the various
levels of the organization and how networking, educational
offerings, Business Partner engagement and our chapter
leadership can collaborate to grow, elevate and ultimately
attract and retain members. n

Small Firm - Thoughts on Vision and Focus
by Rose Bazan & Kris Koeckoenberg

We are the co-chairs of
this year's GLA ALA
Small Firm Section.
Much of what is brought to the forefront is geared to
BigLaw and small firms tend to get lost in the shuffle.

Yet, in reality, the majority of all lawyers in the U.S. work in
firms of less than 30 people. The Small Firm Section's focus
is to gather and deliver information to GLA ALA members
that is relevant and specific to the issues that small firms
face on a daily basis.
