Young wisdom. I hear it every day around my
house, though it's about to leave my home soon
and head off to college. I don't remember having
this much wisdom or insight at such a young age.
I marvel at our young people today who are willing
to innovate and collaborate on anything, to any
end. But mostly for the sake of making the world a
better place, just because it's the right thing to do.
- Collaborate: "To work jointly on an activity,
especially to produce or create something."
- Innovate: "Make changes in something
established, especially by introducing new
methods, ideas, or products."
Collaborate and Innovate - this is my hope for
GLA ALA. Not only is it a theme, but a goal: to
see our chapter work together collaboratively to
become stronger, better, and to lift each other
up, to become the best that we can be. We have
had our share of struggles, both individually and
collectively, and I believe this gives us the strength
to move forward, to grow, and to learn.
My hope is that we continue to engage our
Business Partners on a deeper level and help them
find value in our organization and in us, as friends
and as colleagues. My hope is that we continue
to engage our members, both new and existing.
My hope is that we continue to provide quality
education and opportunities to grow and advance
for all of our members in their professional lives.
We all love the opportunities for networking and
socializing that GLA ALA provides, but how about
if we went even deeper than that and collaborated
with each other on the future of GLA ALA? What if

we innovated the way we communicated with each
other? What if we considered using this magazine
as a tool for sharing our thoughts, ideas, concerns,
and suggestions?
We have the forum right here! We have the ability
to innovate, collaborate, and engage right here
with Leadership Exchange. Please consider
submitting ideas to the magazine. Lori and I, as
co-editors, would like to work directly with
you, our readers, to make the magazine
more thoughtful and robust. Please consider
submitting ideas, suggestions, and/or concerns
to either of us at lwhipple@AdamsStirling.com or
glachaptermanager@gmail.com. We welcome the
input and feedback.
We also need your help to guarantee attendance
at events and to be a friendly face to Business
Partners.
Please consider coming out to more meetings
and interacting with your fellow members and our
gracious Business Partners, who have supported
us throughout the years. I'm nudging all of you to
accept this challenge and to take a step, even if
it's a small step, and get involved. Come out to an
event. Come to a luncheon or a section meeting.
Hold out your hand to a Business Partner and say
"Hi!" Introduce yourself to a member you don't
know and make yourself available.
Try to learn something new today. Meet a new
member or Business Partner. Let yourself be
vulnerable for a minute. Take a step forward and
trust. Engage. You can't lose. Either you'll win or
you'll learn from it. n
