ERM Annual Review 2008 - (Page 32) IHI Corporation Ltd Assessing the environmental impact of three proposed Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) trains at a complex in Algeria. Regional demand for LPG is growing in Algeria. To meet this challenge Japan-based IHI Corporation was contracted to build three new LPG trains at an LPG separation plant operated by SONATRACH, a state-owned oil & gas company in Algeria. Based on ERM’s comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) submission to the Algerian authorities, IHI Corporation was granted an environmental permit to begin work on the new LPG trains immediately. In addition to meeting regulatory requirements, the EIA enabled IHI Corporation to assess how the new LPG trains should be integrated and provided options for accommodating future growth that they could pass onto SONATRACH.
