THE TRADITION OF HERMÈS:
Timeless Elegance, Craftsmanship, Luxury
models of very efficient and innovative saddles:
Hermès Cavale, Steinkraus, Hermès Allegro, Brasilia,
Oxer, Corlandus, Hermès Arpege, Cross, and Senlis.
Responding to the challenges of an equitation that seeks
ever greater perfection, in which horses have become
more athletic, the house is continually innovating,
applying the exacting standards of the greatest
champions to every aspect of their work.
The horse, for Hermès, is the epitome of energy and
elegance, an animal whose movement is synonymous
with allure, lightness and precision. Since being founded
in 1837 by Thierry Hermès as a maker of harnesses and
saddles, the horse has remained the emblem of the
brand and acted as a source of inspiration across all
creative roads. In 1879 the business moved to 24, rue du
Faubourg St. Honore, where it still stands today.
When confronted with the advent of the automobile,
Hermès diversified its product mix and began
manufacturing wallets, handbags, luggage, always
applying their savoir-faire. The saddle-stitch was thus
used for the first time to produce non-equestrian
products. Since this time, Hermès has expanded its trade
to include, among others: silk, leather, clothing, fragrance,
jewelry and porcelain. But, it all began with the horse.
Still today, in the workshops at 24 Faubourg SaintHonore in Paris, the skills and expertise of the master
saddlers and harness-makers are expressed in every
saddle. Each one is handmade by a single craftsman,
and saddle-stitched to ensure reliability and durability.
Hermès only uses full-grain leathers, worked in such a
way as to enhance their natural characteristics. Each
saddle is stamped with the Saddler's mark, serial number
and inscribed in the registry books in the Paris workshop.
More than 150 years of experience and the collaboration
with some of the world's greatest riders has allowed
Hermès to expand its collection to include various
2018 WINTER EQUESTRIAN FESTIVAL
The expertise of riders from around the world,
combined with the skills of a specialist veterinarian, a
master saddler and a team of engineers, enables the
ergonomics, the quality and the performance of the
saddles to be constantly refined. Research into shapes
and developments in materials provide all Hermès
saddles with high sporting efficiency, combining
technicality, lightness, comfort, and elegance for all the
disciplines, for both competitive and leisure riding. In
designing high-end reliable modern equipment, there is
nothing more valuable than a pooling of experience and
shrewd discussion. Since the days of Bill Steinkraus and
Nelson Pessoa in the 1970s, these collaborations have
increased as new contacts have been established and
now constitute a team of different talents governed by
a shared mindset and a common commitment to the
essential values of horsemanship: respect for the horse,
hard work, precision and success.
The house of Hermès has extended its collections by
pairing the excellence of its saddlery craftsmanship
with constant innovation, offering a full complement of
equipment for the hose, rider and stables: saddles, bridles,
crops, competition and training apparel, helmets, grooming
equipment, leather care products, and much more.
In its quest for permanent newness, the horse, the
first Hermès client, remains at the heart of the house,
cultivating the heritage of the animal through a touch of
fantasy, dream and magic combined with professional
expertise, high quality craftsmanship and innovation as
guiding design principles.
