2018 Winter Equestrian Festival - January 10 - April 1, 2018 - 8
A LETTER FROM PRESIDENT MICHAEL STONE
I'd like to welcome you back to PBIEC for another season of the Winter Equestrian Festival.
We have many things to offer all of our exhibitors this circuit and thank you for once again
support equestrian sport in the United States.
Our competition calendar this year is very full and will once again showcase many of the
top equestrian athletes in the world during the twelve weeks of WEF. We begin 2018 with
the $75,000 Battle of the Sexes presented by Wellington Regional Medical Center on
Saturday, January 13, and then transition into eleven straight weeks of FEI competition for
our show jumping exhibitors.
The 2018 Winter Equestrian Festival will host twelve consecutive weeks of Premier "AA"
hunter competition, as well as host the $100,000 Peter Wetherill Hunter Spectacular on
Saturday, February 17, during World Champion Hunter Rider week. Our organization has
also added an additional $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby mid-season to offer
another opportunity for our hunter riders to compete at the highest levels. The season
will conclude with the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby on the Derby Field,
keeping with tradition as we have for many years.
Our four CSI 5* competitions are set to draw the largest spectators crowds and top
international riders, as many are preparing their qualifications for the FEI World Equestrian
Games™ Tryon 2018 later this year at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). It is a
privilege for our organization to host four CSI 5* competitions and we understand that
those weeks make this circuit invaluable to riders looking to gain ranking points and
In addition to the CSI 5* weeks we also are eager to unveil a new grass initiative made
possible by feedback from our riders over the past year, which will take place during WEF
4 and WEF 11. All FEI classes during the course of those two weeks will be held on the
Derby Field and conclude with the $205,000 NetJets Grand Prix CSI 4* during WEF 4
and the $205,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Grand Prix CSI 4* during WEF 11. We will offer
a rider bonus to the combinations that take advantage of these opportunities and place
consistently over the two weeks of competition.
The Great Charity Challenge presented by Fidelity Investments®, which has raised more
than $10.8 million since its inception for Palm Beach County charities, will take place on
February 3 and once again bring light to the giving nature of our equestrian community.
One of my favorite events, the $150,000 U.S. Trust Nations Cup CSIO 4* will now take
place on Saturday, March 3, and welcome a variety of nations to the International Ring.
We encourage the public to come out and support their favorite team in one of the most
energetic evenings of the circuit!
We wish all of our competitors the best of luck this season!
