Hispanic Enterprise - October/November 2007 - (Page 60) MOVERS & SHAKERS CESAR CONDE PROMOTED TO EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF UNIVISION Cesar Conde has been promoted to executive vice president, chief strategy officer of Univision. He will report to Joe Uva, Univision’s CEO. In his new position, Conde will work closely with Uva and the management team to identify new strategic growth opportunities for the company. He will be concerned with new business initiatives and alternative revenue streams across the Univision’s television, radio and Internet platforms. In addition, he will have direct oversight of Univision’s community affairs, government relations and corporate business development teams. Conde most recently served as the special assistant to Uva. Prior to this position, he was vice president and operating manager of the Galavision Network. He has also served as vice president of corporate development for the three Univision Networks and as vice president of business development at the Univision Network. On the heels of the success of its $100 million Nogales Fund I, Los-Angeles based Nogales Investors Management, LLC has raised Nogales Fund II, a $245 million fund that will target middle market companies in underserved markets with investments of $10 to $30 million.The fund will focus on companies that are either Latino-owned or target the Latino market. Prior to founding Nogales Investors, managing partner Luis Nogales built an extensive and successful record as a senior operating executive and private equity investor, serving as president of Univision, NOGALES INVESTORS RAISES $245 MILLION FUND NOGALES II. president and CEO of United Press International, principal of the Lombard/Nogales Radio Fund and senior advisor to the Deutsche Bank Private Equity Latin America Group. Investment candidates for Nogales Fund II include private or publicly held companies headquartered or doing business within the United States and whose management teams are partnership-oriented and growth-oriented. Industry sectors of particular interest include retail, financial services, energy, manufacturing, media and communications and transportation. HAYDEE M. RODRIGUEZ APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF PBS DIVERSITY INITIATIVE PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger announced that Haydee M. Rodriguez has been appointed director of PBS’s Diversity Initiatives. Rodriguez joins the staff of PBS from the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs, where she was executive director. In the newly created position at PBS, Rodriguez will identify opportunities to encourage diversity throughout public television. It is a one-year appointment during which Rodriguez is charged with developing a diversity plan designed to engage public television partners and thought leaders and to increase diversity in ways that impact public television content. She will report directly to PBS COO Wayne Godwin, Rodriguez served as the first female executive director to the Hispanic Commission in Maryland since 2005. In this role, she was responsible for the commission’s overall management and daily operations to fulfill its mission of ensuring community access to information and services at various levels. OUTSTANDING HISPANIC READERSHIP GROWTH Hispanic Magazine, the nation’s largest circulating publication targeting Latino readers, reported a total readership growth of 40 percent from fall 2005 to fall 2006. The magazine, a sister publication of Hispanic Enterprise, showed a 50 percent jump in male readership, a 21 percent increase in female readership and 100 percent increase in readership among the 18 to 24 age group. Since Hispanic’s new editor, Daniel Eilemberg, took over, Hispanic the younger readers attracted by the magazine have brought down the average reader age from 42 in 2005 to 39 in 2006. 60 MARY KAY BUSINESS OWNERS ACHIEVE TOP POSITIONS Sandra Chamorro of San Gabriel, California, Elizabeth Sanchez Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and Maria Monarrez of Liberal, Kansas, celebrated reaching the career milestone of becoming Mary Kay independent national sales directors, a pinnacle of achievement among the more than 1.7 million independent beauty consultants worldwide who own their own Mary Kay skin care and cosmetics businesses.
