American Indian Report - May 2008 - (Page 3) DAT E B O O K April 7 The Hualapai Heritage Trails Projects receives $40,000 through the National Park Service’s Preserve America grant program. The goal of this project is to preserve and promote five existing cultural heritage trails for the benefit of the Hualapai community and visiting tourists. The Preserve America funds will provide archeological and ethnographic surveys of the trail sites and create interpretive signage, a brochure and map. Applications for Preserve America, Round Two FY 2008 grants are due June 30. Applications are due for Institute of Museum and Library Services Native American Library Services Enhancement Grants. Funding can be used to expand services for learning and access to information and educational resources; to develop library services that provide all users with access to information through local, state, regional, national and international electronic networks; to provide electronic and other linkages between/among all types of libraries; to develop public and private partnerships with other agencies and community-based organizations; to target library services to help increase access and ability to use information resources for individuals of diverse geographic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, individuals with disabilities and individuals with limited functional literacy or information skills; and to target library and information services to help increase access and ability to use information resources for persons having difficulty using a library and for underserved urban and rural communities. Maximum award is $150,000; period is up to two years. Applications are due for funding under the SMART Office FY 2008 Support for Adam Walsh Act (AWA) Implementation Grant Program. The AWA grant program assists state, local and tribal jurisdictions with developing and/or enhancing programs designed to implement requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) under AWA. Individual awards will be up to $300,000 for a period of up to 12 months. A minimum 25 percent match is required, and it is a competitive grant. Ten percent of the total amount awarded will be set-aside for tribal jurisdictions. The 29th Annual National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Conference takes place at the Ho-Chunk Hotel & Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The conference is attended by federal officials, tribal employment and training staff, non-profit grantees serving Indians and related partners.
