American Indian Report - July 2008 - (Page 14) GAMING Knowing Your Customer Top-Notch Service Keeps Tribal Casinos Competitive By Michelle Tirado The nation’s 423 tribal casinos are proving they know how to woo gamers — the low rollers and the high rollers — right away from Nevada properties. Indian gaming was a $26 billion industry last year, according to a recent National Indian Gaming Commission report, up 5 percent from the previous year. Although it is not growing as fast as it was, a consequence of the sluggish economy and high gas prices, it is still outpacing Nevada casinos’ growth rate, which was only 1.8 percent. Tribal casinos have just gotten it right. They have the splashy gaming floors with all the popular slots and table games and the world-class accommodations and amenities. They have even mastered delivering top-notch customer service: keeping in touch with their players, offering targeted deals and treating them like kings while they are there. And they will probably continue to get it right, maybe even improve upon it, because they know their patrons.
