The conference, established under Executive Order 13336, allows federal, state and tribal agencies and national organizations to share promising practices and effective programs in the areas of students, schools, family and community. Youth from throughout Indian Country gather in Reno, Nev., for the 2008 United National Indian Tribal Youth Annual Conference. With the theme “Honoring Our Indigenous Family,” the event will feature an array of health and fitness, team-building and spiritual activities; workshops; a basketball tournament; the 10-member executive committee election; the awarding of two Golda Cook Memorial Scholarships, each for $1,500; and more. Request for Proposals are due for the EPA FY 2008 Hazardous Waste Management Grant Program for Tribes. Funding is for the development and implementation of hazardous waste programs and for building capacity to address hazardous waste management in Indian Country. The total estimated funding available under this competitive opportunity is $325,000, subject to the availability of funds and quality of proposals received. The EPA anticipates up to four cooperative agreement(s) with the maximum estimated value of each not exceeding $81,250. The National Native American EMS Association holds its 17th Annual Educational Conference in Las Vegas. The event is packed with training sessions and presentations, including a keynote from Randolph Mantooth, who starred on NBC’s “EMERGENCY!” Applications for FY 2009 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Tribal Wildlife Grant funding are due. Grants provide technical and financial assistance to tribes for the development and implementation of programs that benefit fish and wildlife resources and habitats. Eligible activities include fish and wildlife conservation and management actions, fish and wildlife related laboratory and field research, natural history studies, habitat mapping, field surveys and population monitoring, habitat preservation, conservation easements and public education relevant to a project. Funds may be used for salaries, equipment, consultant services, subcontracts, acquisitions and travel. The award maximum is $200,000 for a single project, but there is no minimum. A match is not required.
