The agenda includes discussions on cultural impacts of climate change, habitat restoration and other topics along with training sessions. The 11th National Indian Nations Conference: Justice for Victims of Crime convenes in Palm Springs, Calif. Funded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, the conference brings together Native American victims, health and social professionals, judicial and law enforcement personnel and reps from tribes and federal and state agencies to share knowledge and ideas for developing programs that serve the needs of crime victims in Indian Country. Applications are due for FY 2009 AmeriCorps Indian Tribes grants. One-percent of AmeriCorps’ funds are set aside annually to support programs operated by tribes and tribal entities. The program provides three-year grants for projects that address critical community needs, such as education, public safety, the environment and health. The maximum award is $12,600 per MSY (Member Service Year), and a match is required. The 14th Annual Western Indian Gaming Conference takes place in Palm Springs, Calif. The conference, hosted by the California Nations Indian Gaming Association, includes panel discussions, a trade show and the annual State of the Tribal Nations address, delivered by CNIGA Chairman Anthony Miranda. Applications are due for FY 2009 Community Mental Health Services for Children and Their Families Program, or Child Mental Health Initiative (CMHI), grants. Administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services, the program supports the development of integrated home and community-based services and supports for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances and their families by encouraging the development and expansion of effective and enduring systems of care. SAMHSA anticipates awarding $17 million for 17 projects.
