Development of a variety of activities during the non-skiing months has drawn numerous people together from all the clubs. The program provided numerous happy hours throughout the greater Phoenix area, the Flagstaff Beer and Wine Festival, Wine Tours and dinners. The workup to this year’s ski season was lead by the Sailing Adventures Club with two sailing trips. September had members from various clubs sailing from Newport to Nantucket and back over seven days. November had a group of members sailing around the Grenadines in the Caribbean. In addition, the Arizona Outdoor and Travel Club offers hikes almost every day of the week to help build the leg strength. The networking between the clubs is reflecting in major gains and experiences for club members. Ski trips this year include Telluride, Taos, South Lake Tahoe, Snowmass, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude, and Winter Park. For those who can’t get vacation days, weekend get aways to Mt. Bachelor, Brain Head, Taos, or Snowbasin/Powder Mountain are also being planned. Summer events are being planned to cover a number of cultural and relaxing venues, mostly on weekends. For the 2011-12 season, the Arizona Council presents a comprehensive ski trip calendar and other social events open to all members. 62 photos provided by Mike Rogers ARIZONA SKI COUNCIL The annual Welcome in the Snow KickOff Party will be at North Mountain Park, November 5 from 3 PM to 6 PM. It is a BBQ event bringing all clubs together to greet in the 2011-12 season. Additional pre-ski activities include three Warren Miller showings in late fall, with the ski clubs present to hand out the Far West Skier’s Guide. The Arizona Ski Council clubs demonstrate their philanthropy talents in supporting numerous non-profit events. The Phoenix Ski Club each year provides several donations to the Shoe Box Ministry which helps the homeless. Both the Phoenix and Scottsdale Ski Clubs sponsor Adopt-a-Highway. All the clubs are active in Toys for Tots, the Arizona Food Bank, and Children’s Hospital, to name just a few. We’re looking forward to seeing you on the slopes or at any of our other events! Ski Week participants went helicopter skiing on the slopes above Sun Valley.
