Our larger member clubs offer a variety of year-round activities, including golf, tennis, campouts, hiking, trips to summer festivals, and opportunities for social interaction at meetings, parties and happy hours. Our annual council holiday party in early December provides a festive start to the new ski season. Sierra Council is excited to welcome a new ski club, the Alpine Ski and Snowboard Club in Las Vegas, into our council. They have trips planned to Salt Lake City, Utah; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and Steamboat, Colorado. Their sister club, the Las Vegas Ski, Snowboard and Sports Club offers trips to Eagle Point, Brian Head, Ogden (Snowbasin and Powder Mountain), Utah; Whitefish, Montana.; and Mammoth, California. The Tahoe-Donner Senior Alpine Ski Club is based in Truckee, as is the Cabernet Ski Club. The Rat Pack Club is based on the Lake Tahoe south shore, and the Sugar Bowl Ski Club operates out of Sugar Bowl Resort. The greater Sacramento area has the Capitol Ski and Sport Club and the Sacramento social activities friends Fagowees. The Sequoia Ski Club is in Visalia, California. The RU Ski Club draws primarily from the Bay Area. In northern Nevada, the Reno Ski and Recreation Club offers a full schedule of social activities throughout the year, camping trips, and ski days at Lake Tahoe resorts. The Top Gun Ski Club members are primarily active and retired military members in northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe areas. Each club offers a different experience. All enthusiastically welcome active adults who enjoy skiing and socializing with others who enjoy skiing and other outdoor activities. Our members enthusiastically participate in Far West Ski Association trips, club ski days and weekend trips. Sierra Council proudly salutes Debbie Stewart of the Sequoia Ski Club who was named 2011 FWSA Woman of the Year. We are so proud to have one of our members receive this high honor. The Las Vegas Ski, Snowboard and Sports Club won second place in the 2011 FWSA club competitions for outstanding club, newsletter and website in class AA. The Reno Ski and Recreation Club won third place in the Class AAA Outstanding Club Competition for their newsletter. Recreational ski racing is a key activity of the council. Clubs and individuals compete for medals and end of season awards. The race league schedules eight races each season, including a very popular Super G race that attracts racers from other northern California leagues. Sierra racers span all ability levels. Any skier who can make linked turns can have a fun time on the race course and meet members of other clubs. 79 SIERRA COUNCIL & RACE LEAGUE Far West Skier’s Guide 2O11 - 2O12 ▼▼▼▼▼ http://www.wwwactionski.org http://www.ski-dondiego.org http://www.getoffyourrockers.org http://www.nisnowdrifter.com http://www.pacificrimalliance.org http://www.san-diego-ski-club.org http://www.tpscsd.org http://www/skisandiego.org/sdal
