Far West Skier's Guide - 2012-2013 - (Page 33)

“Mt. Bachelor provides a mountain large enough to keep skiers busy for six days. Bob Bourquard went out of his way to orient us to the mountain, rode the bus with us and coordinated fun activities during the week. The trip for our Ski Week was definitely worth it. We should go again!” (Ernie B. Pentagon Ski Club, DC). “Mt. Bachelor provided over-the-top service for Northwest Council’s “Bachelor Blitz” trips (which ran 21 years straight) where early season would see the likes of nearly a thousand skiers descending on the resort and its lodging partners. Chaos was handled in an orderly fashion by Bob Bourquard and his staff.” (Mary O. NW Ski Club Council, OR). Bob Bourquard has made sure that Mt. Bachelor’s continued support of the Far West Ski Association has remained solid. The resort ranks high among our industry partners for their financial support of our Association’s programs. The 2012 FWSA Convention will mark Mt. Bachelor’s 27th year of participation in our Silent Auction. Mt. Bachelor sponsored the beverage for the 2008 Convention Awards Banquet and has sponsored the Convention Pool Party every year since 2009. Bob comes up with many ways to make a pool party fun. Mt. Bachelor and Sunriver co-sponsored the Sunday Brunch at the 2009 Convention and the Multi-Media Presentations at the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Conventions. Because of Bob’s involvement, Mt. Bachelor hosted the FWRA Race Championships in 2007. In December 2008, Mt. Bachelor and Sunriver Resort hosted the Far West Ski Association Board of Director’s meeting, organized by Bob Bourquard. Bob is actively engaged year after year in submitting bids for FWSA Ski Week and individual council ski weeks. Don’t forget the 2014 FWSA Convention will be in Bend, Oregon. You can be sure that Bob Bourquard and the Mt. Bachelor staff will have all kinds of fun surprises in store for us. Because of Bob Bourquard’s tireless work on behalf of our clubs and councils, and his outstanding support of the snowsport public and Far West Ski Association, he is truly deserving of the L Bill Mackey Award. Accepting the Award at the 80th Annual FWSA Convention in Ogden on behalf of the resorts was Michael J. Ballingall, Senior VicePresident of Sales & Marketing. Big White and Silver Star, sister resorts in British Columbia, are known for their amazing light and dry champagne powder. As two of Canada’s favorite family resorts, they offer something for everyone with spectacular skiing and snowboarding. Both resorts are located high above B.C.’s Okanagan Valley with Silver Star northeast and Big White southeast of Kelowna. Silver Star’s quaint and very colorful village was built in the 1960’s with an early 1900s mining town feel. There are 115 runs spread over three mountain faces, offering long groomed cruisers, steep powder filled chutes, and a terrain park. Big White Ski Resort, which also has ski terrain for everyone, opened in 1963 with two Tbars. Now with 16 lifts, Big White is the second largest resort in British Columbia. Big White / Silver Star have both received top ratings and awards from Ski Canada Magazine, The Telegraph, Sunday Times, Conde Nast’s Traveler, SBC Ski & Snowboard Resort Guide, Daily Telegraph, Ski Canada Awards and Far West Ski Association. The Tommi Tyndall award has been received by both of these individual resorts in the past. Silver Star Mountain Resort received the award in 2001 and Big White Ski Resort in 2006. Big White / Silver Star Resorts have had a long term commitment to Far West Ski Association as significant sponsors at our conventions. Not only do they donate a trip for two for the silent auction each year, but over the past 11 years, the Resorts have also sponsored the Councils’ Man and Woman of the Year recognition program. The winners receive a week-long, dual mountain ski package for two, including lift tickets. For each Council Man and Woman nominee, they also offer a 2-day trip for two and host a reception for the nominees. Big White Ski Resort will now be known for hosting the 1st FWSA Mini Ski Trip this past winter. Big White personnel provided outstanding service, fantastic spring ski conditions, great après parties and a wine festival not to be forgotten. Over the years, Big White has also been successful with hosting FWSA club and council trips. For their outstanding and long term support of the skiing public, local community, Far West Ski Association and it’s councils and clubs, Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort embody the spirit of the Tommi Tyndall Award, and are truly deserving of recognition as L this year’s recipients.
