FWSA Scuba Diving Trips Popularity Growing!
by Randy Lew
Far West Ski Association (FWSA) started offering scuba diving trips in the fall of 2010. Based on
a large survey of our club members in 2009, we found out that 21% of our membership were also scuba
divers. Randy Lew, the FWSA President at that time, proposed a dive trip that the FWSA Board of Directors approved. Randy led the first FWSA dive trip in September, 2010 to the Wyndham Reef Club
in Cozumel, Mexico with 16 enthusiastic participants. Since that first trip, participants have enjoyed
the diving, activities and sightseeing at the Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort in Roàtan, Honduras;
the Brac Reef Beach Resort in Cayman Brac; the SunBreeze Hotel in Ambergris Caye, Belize; the Occidental Grand Cozumel Resort in Cozumel, Mexico; the Plaza Beach Resort in Bonaire and a wonderful
trip to Fiji Bega Lagoon Resort. These trips have continually grown in the number of participants with
a great combination of divers and non-divers; singles and couples. We also have had all levels of divers
on these trips, from newly certified to very advanced. One woman that has attended all of our trips
has over 800 dives! All trips have been led by Randy Lew, Past President, FWSA who has a PADI
Master Diver Certification.
These trips are very relaxing with activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, cycling,
hiking, and of course shopping! The increased number of non-diver participants is a great indicator of
the variety of activities that are offered. All trips have been to beautiful - all inclusive resorts with
PADI 5-Star dive operators.

Dive Trip - 2018
The 2018 FWSA Dive Trip participants will be heading to the Cobalt Coast - located on Grand
Cayman. The Cobalt Coast Resort is the only all-inclusive resort in the entire Cayman Islands. They
are also a dive resort perfect for families.
Grand Cayman is the largest of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.
George Town, its capital, is home to the Cayman Islands National Museum, dedicated to Caymanian
heritage. The city is also the site of the ruins of colonial-era Fort George. Beaches and vibrant coral
reefs are the island's hallmarks.
