device-light bulbs, thermostats, door locks and wearable devices-to the internet and/or to each other. On an operational
level, this allows building managers and owners to enable
smart building functionality that can automatically manage a
host of building operations, ranging from smart lighting and
heating to door locking mechanisms. All these capabilities can
save costs for building owners while increasing attractiveness
for tenants. JMA Wireless is already working with many IoT
device and solution providers as well as smart building suppliers to enable these types of functions.
"We talk to most enterprises about IoT and how to establish
a vision for a smart venue - and all buildings that we are deploying today are IoT-enabled," Landry said. "We have many relationships and partnerships with the IoT community because
we believe there is a new ecosystem to be developed here."
According to research firm, Deloitte Consulting, the
commercial real estate industry is uniquely positioned to use
IoT-enabled building management systems to make performance more efficient and to use the data generated from IoT
sensors to improve and enhance the user experience. Property
owners and managers, for instance, can use the data collected
by motion and occupancy sensors at the building level to reg-
ulate air and lighting in real time to reduce energy costs.
5G activities extend to many other areas, including the
promise of significant new data speeds to mobile devices,
broadband wireless solutions for business and residential
Multi-Technology Edge Computing (MEC) that will create
new services, which will better integrate mobile intelligence
with business applications, and more.
"The world of activity and new technologies under the 5G
umbrella are much greater than just IoT," said Landry. "Behind
the scenes we have other significant development investments
long underway to once again set the bar for what is possible
with in-venue wireless solutions."
Mr. Landry would not comment further on the secret developments underway within JMA Wireless, but promised
that they have thought through many aspects of the evolving
market and have selectively chosen to solve the demands of
the next generation smart venues in ways not yet available.
Given the history of innovation by JMA Wireless we surely
look forward to seeing what is next for this company. Anyone in
the building marketplace who is seeking an innovative partner
focused on uniquely addressing mobile communication needs,
JMA Wireless should be right at the top of the list.
