The Collection Ralph Lauren eye- and sunwear is designed for the affluent, modern woman who embraces classic style and possesses an uncompromising sense of quality. Graceful lines, subtle and vintage shapes (like small ovals and oversized shields), the finest luxurious materials (such as exotic alligator leather), and superior crafting are highlights of the collection. Eyewear Details The spring/summer 2007 collection features 22 ophthalmic styles (11 acetate and 11 metal). My favorite piece, Style No. RL 5008, is designed for women with bold, contemporary tastes. It is a striking and sophisticated model with a touch of drama. The wide rectangular metal front in bronze is offset by brown acetate temples, creating a unique and appealing mix of texture and tone. The Ralph Lauren logo is artfully embedded into the frame’s temples for added dimension and design. For the traditional woman, present Style No. RL 6006.This vintageinspired frame is handmade with detailed double rivets on each endpiece.A small oval eye shape and classic colors like Tokyo tortoise enhance the vintage look and appeal of this striking design. Fashion-conscious women will embrace the look of this sunwear, and Style No. RL8004, a large oval wrap, illustrates this. Pearl white in color with brown gradient lenses, this fashionable design is great looking and comfortable. The identifiable RL hinge and RL plaque complete the styling. The striking look of Style No. RL7005, a sunshield in shiny silver with gray gradient lenses, features an exceptionally deep lens offset by a flattened metal eye rim. This frame is large, bold, and beautifully enhanced by the RL hinge which is delicately displayed on the metal endpiece and temple. Style No. RL8004 (top). Style No. 8001(bottom). Honorable Mentions Two other collections are also being launched by Luxottica in the Ralph Lauren line. The newest Ralph Lauren creation, Purple Label Eyewear, echoes a traditional, yet tailored look. Inspired by yesteryear, it includes vintage Windsor rims, P3, and aviator shapes, as well as retro colors like antique tortoise and light gold. Polo Eyewear boasts a classic look for the contemporary man and represents a casual lifestyle of athletic grace and elegance. Symbolic shapes like aviators and rectangles, along with traditional colors like tortoiseshell, gold, and gunmetal give these collections a sense of styling that will never go out of date. Sunwear The sunny side of the collection includes six styles in acetate, five in injection-molded plastic, four metals, and one (Style No. 8007Q) that’s covered entirely in alligator and lizard skins. Point-of-Purchase As you might expect from Ralph Lauren, even the P-O-P materials for all three collections are understated.A logo plaque, a one-piece display in blond wood and white leatherette, counter cards, and banners are offered to exhibit the eyewear. Ralph Lauren’s vision for classically timeless design is nicely interpreted in his new eyewear collections from Luxottica. s Jackie O’Keefe is a licensed optician.
