Coastal Law Viewbook - (Page 22) C A M PU S L I F E Our students come from more than 45 states and from countries as far away as China. While Florida Coastal School of Law offers an extensive full-time curriculum for its students, we also welcome those qualified applicants who who seek a part-time program and those that transfer from other ABA-approved law schools. Live About evenly divided by gender, our students represent a wide variety of ethnicities and races with nearly 20% minority enrollment. In addition to social events, the abundance of student organizations on campus provide students with a wealth of opportunities and benefits including the chance to network with attorneys and experts, hone their professional skills, plan and attend seminars and workshops, as well as providing volunteer pro bono legal and non-legal work throughout the community. Still other student academic honors organizations are focused on skill enhancement, such as the Law Review, the Mock Trial Team, and the Moot Court Honor Board. Coastal Law’s moot court teams set an impressive pace at statewide, national and international moot court competitions. Moot court is an extracurricular activity in which appellant court proceedings are simulated. Participants draft briefs and participate in oral argument against other law schools. Coastal Law teams consistently place at or near the top of the state’s most prestigious statewide moot court competitions, including The E. Zehmer Moot Court Competition, as well as The Robert Orseck Moot Court Competition. Likewise, Coastal Law has solidified national recognition, including taking top honors at such competitions as The Chicago Bar Association National Constitutional Law Competition. Internationally, Coastal Law ranks among the top 10, as recognized at The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C. In addition to Coastal Law team wins at these prominent competitions, individual members were recognized as top advocates and brief writers. Our mock trial teams enjoy similar successes, having advanced to regional rounds of numerous national competitions, including The National Trial Competition, The American Association of Justice Competition and, The Buffalo Niagara Invitational Competition. Mock Trial allows students to develop and demonstrate trial advocacy skills in competitive state and national simulated jury trials. 22
