A few miles to the south, but a world apart in demeanor, is Southwest Florida’s most sophisticated city. Wealthy residents in Naples in Collier County demand the best, and the city’s upscale boutiques, galleries and cultural arts calendar oblige. The city has guarded its natural resources and preserved older districts so visitors can now bicycle through quiet neighborhoods to explore its diverse architectural past. Although a popular beach vacation destination today, Marco Island to the south of Naples still retains remnants from its days as a turn-of-the-century Indian trading post. Visitors can dine at Olde Marco Inn, a quaint gathering place for islanders since 1883, or stop by Smallwood’s Store, a 1906 general-store-turned-museum that displays old patent medicines, ledgers and hand tools. Marco Island’s mainland neighbor, Everglades City, is the front door to the mysterious and captivating Everglades National Park. The Everglades, the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the United States, is easily accessible for tours. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, toward Immokalee in northern Collier County, is an 11,000-acre wilderness sanctuary. It features a two-mile-long boardwalk through the world’s largest ancient bald cypress. http://www.peacerivercampground.com http://www.torrey-oaks-rv-lots.com http://www.riversidervresort.com http://www.alligatorpark.com http://www.sunnfunfl.com http://www.cypresswoodsrv.com http://www.campfla.com http://www.crosscreekrv.com http://www.goldenpalmsrv.com
