Naked City - Volume 1 Issue 1 - (Page 39) >noise normally hear in an up-and-coming band. Be on the lookout for these guys around town. The evening of November 3 saw the debut of She Gave Us Magic, the long-awaited and longoverdue full-length album by Black Gasoline. And it kicked off with a release party that would satisfy any and all riff-addicted junkies. Next up was Kansas City’s It’s Over. These guys must have a great dental plan. I saw more pearly whites than I had seen in a long time. It’s nice to see a band with members that smile for once. The KC natives brought a 60’s AM Gold Pop sound that crossed sub-genres making the people dance with songs that would please fans of The Strokes, Elvis Costello, and The Decemberists (another band worth checking out). Finally, it was time for Black Gasoline to turn down the lights, turn up the fog machine and kick out the jams. Opening the set with All Night, the band had the command of the audience through a sweaty set of songs that would keep heads banging and feet moving long into the night. The Black Gas sound has matured since the first time I saw them, and there are exciting things ahead of them. The guys are headed out on tour this winter and are bringing the magic to the people. Check them out at myspace.com/blackgasoline and get to a show sometime. >>> nakedcity written by > troy wells black magic photographed by > kevin wildt Black Gasoline started back in 2001 under the name of Helvis. It’s the sound of black lights, psychedelia and riff hungry rock-and-roll that drives this band and is pushing them forward. The show took place at the Cabaret Old Town, a place better known for 80’s music variety shows than rock-and-roll. The night was complete with an MC and raffle drawing for CDs and shirts. I think this was the first raffle-rock show I’d been to. Also, this was my first time in this venue, and it’s one that would do well with more concerts. The show was kicked off by locals Science Rocket. I had never seen and/or heard of these guys before this evening and was pleasantly surprised. I could hear the sounds of Queens of the Stone Age and the Foo Fighters in their set, and they were tight beyond what you’d 39 nakedcitymag.com > volume 1 issue 1 http://nakedcitymag.com http://myspace.com/blackgasoline
