Naked City - Volume 1 Issue 3 - (Page 10) >uncommon threads I’m a fashion addict. I admit it. A few years ago when my budget meant that mall stores like the gap were my high fashion, I still poured over the fashion magazines and drooled over the designer clothing in them. One day, while laid off due to a rather ugly dot-com bust in 2001, I decided to see if there was a forum online about clothes to help pass the time. Feeling rather shallow, I logged on to vogue’s Web site and braved a post -- using the nickname KansasDiva. I was quickly schooled by the women online, who let me know in no uncertain terms that no one in KaNsas could possibly be fashionable. I believe there were several references to WaL-MarT polyester, as well. I tried, to no avail, to tell these women that there ARE stores in KaNsas that actually sell designer clothes and that WaL-MarT–although they have some great stuff–isn’t the go-to store for our modern women and men. It’s sad the image that our beloved state has. Some of the most fashionable women I know are from this very city. It’s even more sad that I occasionally have to remind local friends that fashion and great style can be found at home. Let me share some of my haunts with you: Aspen Boutique www.aspen-traders.com First alphabetically and first in my heart. I’ve been shopping with this terrific boutique since it opened. Everything from soap to a HUGE assortment of camis to jeans to suits can be found in their artistic little home at Douglas and Oliver. The designer brand I can’t resist there? Incredible jewelry by David Aubrey (www.davidaubrey.com). nakedcity Bo Di CeA Boutique A boutique that makes this eastsider make the drive to 21st and Maize, Bo Di Cea is home to terrific jeans among other things. I love Victoria Beckham (remember Posh Spice?) and her line of jeans almost as much as I love looking at her soccer-playing husband. Her dvb clothing line defines sexy. And if you watch TLC’s WhaT NoT To Wear, you know that every professional woman needs a pair of trouser jeans in their closet -- never fear, Joes JeaNs collection has several styles that fit the bill. 10 nakedcitymag.com > volume 1 issue 3 stylin’ in doodah seCtion 37 www.section37.net Another place to find Joe’s JeaNs - this time for men. I’m dying to get my man into a pair of Joe's Classic Socialite Jeans. You can also pick up eNgLish LauNDry and TripLe Five souL at this boutique, which tempts both men and women. Located at K-96 Highway and East 21st, it’s a bit of a drive for anyone living West of Hillside, but well worth it. LynDon’s www.lyndonsonline.com In business under owner Donna Preston since 1975, LyNDoN’s is an eastside landmark for women of great taste and style. This shop is home to a huge array of upscale and designer clothes: see by Chole, Milly, Nanette Lapore, Piazza Sempione, Tory Burch, and Robert Rodriguez to name a view. Fans of Bravo’s fashion design competition, proJeCT ruNWay, can find pieces from a designer who has appeared on the show, Catherine Malandrino.
