Based producer’s sophomore release is so hot I have to ice down my headphones when I play his tracks. Look for collaborations with The Grouch (Living Legends), Busdriver, ABsTrAcT rude and d-sTyles to name a few. 6 e x t i n g u i s h e d Prefuse 73 A more clear and concise version of his album One Word Extinguisher, I am hooked on the first track Suite for the Way Things Change, and at the end of the album’s short 40 minute lifespan, I reluctantly shrug off the urge to start the cd over. live At the future PriMitive s o u n d s e s s i o n v o l . 1 Cut Chemist Meets Shortkut A flawless improvised set between two djs on five turntables and one of my most significant influences as a dj, plus, it’s chock full of head-nodding wonder. Anyone who’s a dj and doesn’t strive for this level of quality should surrender their records. 7 2 t A l e s o f t h e f o r g o t t e n M e l o d i e s Wax Tailor This French Phono-Phenomenon had my knees weak with his stunning soundscape of cinematic hip hop instrumentals 37 nakedcitymag.com > volume 1 issue 3 nakedcity 3 e n t r o d u C i n g DJ Shadow Let’s put it this way: I don’t leave home without it; this album changed the lives and ears of anyone whom has had the pleasure of experiencing the entirely sample-based masterpiece. 8 M u s i C 311 At least once in every road trip I like to go back to high school. By far their best, this band’s unique and perpetually cool blend of funk, rock, jazz and ‘reggae’ is BeAsTie Boys – Ill Communication. 4 l o v e r ’ s r o C k Sade Who doesn’t want a little romance and heartbreak in their road trip? Coupled with some smooth grooves and a silky, sultry voice, this album will cruise you through the worst traffic jam. 9 t i M e o u t Dave Brubeck Quartet One of my favorite albums to chill out to, this album trasncended jazz due to it’s challenge of the conventional 4/4 time signature consistently throughout the whole album. If you haven’t heard this, be sure to check out Take 5. t h A t ’ s W h A t ’ s u P, v o l . 1 DJ Cutter J My favorite local DJ, his style is funky, rhythmic and soulful; even his electronic track selection is delightful. Caution: highly addictive. If you meet this gentleman, wear your swoon guard! 5 f l o r i d A DJ Diplo This record evokes great craftsmanship. A little loop-heavyrepetitive, but it’s diversity and drum heavy genius lends itself a great hypnotic appeal, making it great road material. 1 http://nakedcitymag.com
