Fifteen-year-old Gustine– the dress lodger–is a potter’s assistant by day and a prostitute by night. Grave-robbing and a nameless little son with a horrible birth defect all come together to make Gustine’s life difficult. P r i D e a n D P r e j u D i c e Jane Austen Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: PriDe anD P r e j u D i c e c o n T i n u e s Linda Berdoll Pride and Prejudice is the love story of the handsome Mr. Darcy and lovely Elizabeth. It has been made into countless movies and plays and the tortured tale of their love ends much too soon. The story of their love is continued in Linda Berdoll’s wild, rather naughty, but completely engrossing novel. In it, the Darcys begin their married life as one of the happiest, most in-love couples imaginable. It could be too sugar sweet, if not for a bit of Austen-esque turmoil thrown their way (and the bawdy sex scenes). M o b y D i c k Herman Melville a h a b ’ s W i f e Sena Jeter Naslund Pair the classic whale tale, Moby dick by Herman Melville, with the contemporary ahab’s Wife, by Sena Naslund. This very long, epic work of historical fiction, honors Melville’s Moby dick and uses it as a looking glass into early-19th-century America. This novel pays tribute to Melville, creating heroines from his lesser characters, and to America’s literary heritage in general. Read both and see the classic story from both sides.
