Annual Report 2007/2008 - (Page 12) When we hear about the “Tech connection,” that bond that Georgia Tech alumni have with their alma mater, the discussion oftentimes comes around to Roll Call. For years, alumni of the Institute have demonstrated their collective commitment by leading all state universities in the percentage of alumni support. The 61st Roll Call benefited from that annual commitment, and the results were impressive. Alumni led the way, and with the continued support from faculty, staff, students, parents and friends of Georgia Tech, Roll Call finished with a total of $8.505 million from more than 31,000 donors. Roll Call remains the single largest source of predictable unrestricted funds at Georgia Tech, representing a broad base of support. These unrestricted funds provide for student scholarships and financial aid, assist the Institute in recruiting and retaining top faculty and support new academic programs. Roll Call, through its very generous donors, plays a role in almost every facet of Georgia Tech. While the overall totals were noteworthy, a few programs helped set the stage for a record-setting year. “We saw increases in student giving, many young alumni donors joined the ranks by making their first gifts and many of our longtime donors increased their giving,” said Nate Jones, director of Annual Giving for the Alumni Association. “That’s the key to a strong annual fund: broad support with many areas exceeding expectations.” Jim Shea, vice president of Fundraising and Business Development, said, “The benefits of a strong annual fund cannot be underestimated. Roll Call makes such a difference here, allowing Georgia Tech to seize opportunities, attract top students and offer them a challenging academic experience led by the best faculty. Alumni should be proud.” Joe Evans, vice chair for Roll Call, and Steven Blackwood, Biol 07, worked together during the 2007-08 fiscal year to develop a sense of philanthropic obligation among the Institute’s most recent graduates. 12 2007-08 ANNUAL REPORT | GEORGIA TECH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
