GT Did You Know? Here are a few facts about the University of Virginia, the Homecoming game opponent: • It was founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson. • Fans are known as Wahoos for the “Wahhoo-wah!” sports cheer. • Originally, the sports teams wore silver and red uniforms, which didn’t show up well on dirty fields. Inspired by the University of Oxford, Virginia changed to orange and navy blue in 1888. Photo: Michael A. Schwarz • Edgar Allan Poe attended Virginia but dropped out after going into debt. The Buzz Around Town Take a stroll around campus during Homecoming and experience the Buzz Around Town. The Alumni Association has extended its centennial celebration to include the Tech community through outdoor works of art. Twenty-five fiberglass forms of Buzz are being displayed on and around the Tech campus. Buzzes may be found on North Avenue, Techwood Drive, Fifth Street, around the Tech Tower and outside the Campus Recreation Center. A map and photos of each Buzz may be found on the Alumni Association Web site at www.gtalumni.org/ buzzaroundtown. Sponsors have been paired with artists to bring each Buzz to life with one-of-a-kind designs that reflect their visions for what embodies Tech pride. Each Buzz will be auctioned off at the end of the year. Proceeds will benefit the Georgia Tech organization of the sponsor’s choice.
