Jacksonville State kicks off and the Tech returner fumbles it away. The Gamecocks take the ball and quickly score on a Perrilloux pass, 27-7. Just like that, the crowd hushes, but this time not out of anticipation. Maybe that fast start was too good to be true? Tech handles the kickoff this time and, through short runs and passes, moves the ball just past midfield. Johnson watches their movements intently and calls the next play in to Nesbitt. At the snap, Nesbitt fakes the handoff to the A-Back and sprints right. There’s one defender free, and he goes straight for the quarterback. But the second before the tackle, Nesbitt pitches off to B-Back Roddy Jones. Forty-nine yards later, Jones is celebrating another touchdown. The triple option run perfectly, just like it’s drawn up, 34-7. For a moment, Johnson almost seems to smile.
