Alumni Magazine - Summer 2008 - (Page 46) Inspired Leader President Clough bids farewell to students, alumni By John Dunn Photography: Gary Meek and Rob Felt W ayne Clough concluded his 14-year tenure as Georgia Tech’s 10th president on June 30 and began a five-year commitment the next day to head the Smithsonian Institution as its chief executive. Gary Schuster, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, has been named interim president. May was Clough’s month to bid farewell to students at commencement May 3, to alumni at the quarterly board meeting of the Alumni Association on May 16 and to the Leadership Circle donors at the annual Presidents’ Dinner May 17. Faculty and staff held a reception in honor of Clough and his wife, Anne, on May 22, recognizing the leader Schuster called “the most influential, successful and positive presidential force in Georgia Tech’s history.” 46 Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine • Summer 2008
