Thomas Earnest, IntA 07, was awarded the Critical Language Scholarship, jointly sponsored by the U.S. State Department and Council for Overseas Research Centers, to study Arabic as part of the National Security Language Initiative. He will be studying in Cairo, Egypt, through mid-December. Amy Edwards, Biol 01, graduated from the Ben-Gurion University Medical School for International Health in May. In June, she began a pediatric residency at Case Western’s MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Becky Ellis, ChE 00, and her husband, Jeff, announce the birth of a son, Wittman Ray, on May 17. He joins brothers Nathan, 1, and Will, 4, at the family’s home in Decatur, Ala. A full-time mother, Ellis is an independent consultant with Southern Living at Home. Hoenes, IE 00, graduated in May from the Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga., with a doctor of medicine degree. At the graduation ceremony, she was awarded the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. The award is given by the faculty to the student who has demonstrated the highest standard of compassion and sensitivity in interactions with patients. Hoenes is continuing her training in pediatrics and child neurology at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. 2000s David Ashley, BME 04, and his wife, Gina, announce the birth of a son, Evan Gabriel, on Feb. 15. Evan joins brother Ethan Josiah, 3, at the family’s home in Alpharetta, Ga.
