Howard E. McClain, IE 67, an attorney in Adel, Ga., has been appointed Superior Court judge of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit by Gov. Sonny Perdue. McClain serves as the attorney for the Cook County Board of Education, city of Adel and Cook County Economic Development Commission and as the municipal court judge for Alapaha, Ray City, Enigma and Sycamore. He and his wife, Carolyn, have three children. Charles D. “Charlie” Moseley Jr., IE 65, has been appointed as an at-large representative to the board of trustees of the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia by Gov. Sonny Perdue. The founding general partner of Noro-Moseley Partners, Moseley serves on the board of trustees of the Georgia Tech Foundation and Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, as well as on the board of directors for the Atlanta Symphony and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. He and his wife, Brenda, have two grown children and four grandchildren. Larry Taylor, IM 62, a retired major general with the Marine Corps Reserve, has been named the in-Iraq manager of adviser services for Civilian Police International, a State Department contractor. Stephen P. Zelnak Jr., IM 69, chairman and CEO of Martin Marietta Materials Inc. in Raleigh, N.C., has been named an outstanding alumnus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Business. He was honored at an awards luncheon held in May. Zelnak, who earned a master’s degree in administrative science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and an MBA from UAB, joined the Martin Marietta Corp. in 1981. Jim Carreker, EE 69, his wife, Helen, and their staff were recognized with one of Australia’s top hospitality industry awards for their 15-suite property, The Louise, and its restaurant, Appellation. Located in the Barossa Valley of South Australia, the property was named Australia’s top luxury accommodation by the National Tourism Alliance. The Louise was selected as the category award winner for top Luxury Accommodation in South Australia in November. Ramblin’ Roll 1970s Wallace P. Buran, IE 75, MS IE 78, of Atlanta, has joined KPMG LLP as a partner in the firm’s advisory practice. He will be responsible for supporting clients in supply chain strategy, manufacturing technology, shareholder value enhancement, overhead performance and enterprise transformation. Prior to joining KPMG, he was a partner with The Monitor Group and Deloitte Consulting, led IBM’s Global Operations Strategy Consulting and was the CEO of WorldCrest Group. The Edenfield executive-in-residence at Georgia Tech, Buran recently completed research on business transformation, frontier management practices and “next generation” supply chain and was a contributing author of a book on enterprise transformation. Harry E. Carpenter III, CerE 74, has had an article, “Creating Order out of Chaos: Establishing Financial Security for NASCAR,” published in the spring issue of Automotive History Review. Carpenter is an instructor of history/geography at Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, N.C. Joe Davidson, EES 79, completed the Boston Marathon in three hours and 57 minutes on April 21, after having qualified in the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon with a time of three hours and 29 minutes. Davidson is an associate director of human resources with Procter & Gamble. Ritchie C. Davis, MS IM 71, of Guyton, Ga., has retired from Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah. Davis worked as a project engineer in airplane design. Dwight H. Evans, CE 70, MS SanE 73, of Stone Mountain, Ga., has been appointed to the board of directors of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Evans, who retired as executive vice president of Southern Company, is a member of the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and chairs the chamber’s environment and energy committee. He is a board member of the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution. He and his wife, Sharon, have two grown children and three grandchildren. Dolan Falconer Jr., NE 78, MS NE 79, is the founder, director and CEO of ScanTech Holdings, which has signed a deal to sell Xray inspection equipment for use at airports in the United Arab Emirates. ScanTech’s Xray technology provides “material discrimination” of nuclear and radioactive materials, explosives, drugs and liquids. Charles E. Hodges, ChE 75, has been selected as a Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry fellow. In March, he completed three years on the TAPPI board of directors. President and CEO of the Port Townsend Paper Corp., he and his wife, Kathi, live in Port Townsend, Wash. Tom Lyttle, ME 70, of Decatur, Ga., who participates in an amateur road-racing series of the Sports Car Club of America, recently completed his 300th race at Roebling Road Raceway in Bloomingdale, Ga., in his modified Mazda RX-7. Lyttle finished in second place but took first in his 301st race the following day. Bruce Noggle, Arch 75, M Arch 77, spent a week and a half in July in Pamplona, Spain, participating in the running of the bulls. A former rugby player at Tech, Noggle described the experience as “the pinnacle of human chaos.” Having completed the run five times without incident, he received a hoof print on his back from a calf’s attempt to jump over his crouched body. Robin L. Reinhardt, BC 79, of Cumberland, R.I., was promoted to director of A&E services for CVS/Caremark in November. Derek V. Smith, MS IM 79, chairman and CEO of ChoicePoint, has been presented the 2008 Leadership Award from the National Center for Victims of Crime for his and ChoicePoint’s ongoing support of making communities safer through the use of technology. For nearly a decade, ChoicePoint has partnered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help return 100 missing children to their families through its ADAM broadcast fax service. Smith, who has led ChoicePoint Philip M. Breedlove, CE 77, assumed command of the 3rd Air Force in Europe charged with supporting U.S. European Command in a ceremony in July. He last served as vice director for strategic plans and policy on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Lt. Gen.
