She is the founder and coordinator of the Falcons cheerleaders’ alumni group, which has more than 200 members. Friedman, ME 84, MS ME 91, recently was awarded tenure at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he is an associate professor of mechanical engineering. Friedman received a PhD in mechanical engineering at Johns Hopkins University in 2002, the same year that he retired from the Navy. Dennis Hall, AE 81, has been named the senior intelligence officer for the Air Force Research Laboratory, Sensors Directorate, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Raymond G. Heineman, IM 84, AE 01, has accepted a position as a NASA research pilot for the Aircraft Operations Division at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. His first assignment will be as a T-38 instructor pilot. He previously worked as the safety and mission assurance avionics lead on the upcoming Ares I-X development flight test. He is the first architect to be selected for the award, which includes a $5,000 scholarship that Gardner will present to a Wake County high school senior. Gardner is founding principal of Isosceles Design, an architectural firm in Raleigh. He won the national honor because of his passion for helping foster care children attend college and his longstanding dedication to environmental stewardship. In 2004, Gardner created the Wake Investment Scholarship for Education Initiative, which has raised more than $100,000 for college scholarships for children in foster care. NACo represents 3,066 counties across the nation and 50,000 locally elected county officials. Gardner accepted the award at the organization’s national conference in Kansas City, Mo., in July. Gardner lives in Raleigh with his wife, Betty, Biol 80, and their three daughters, Rebecca, Amelia and Hannah.
