Leonardo Duenas-Osorio, PhD CE 05, has received the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Award, which supports research and education plans for junior faculty, who are considered to be future leaders in the field. In 2006, Duenas-Osorio joined the civil and environmental engineering faculty at Rice University, where he currently serves as an assistant professor. The CAREER award funds will support his research activities in the reliability of urban infrastructures. Wren Fowler, NuRadE 05, has joined the Division of Construction Projects at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a project inspector. He and his wife, Suzanne Fulcher Fowler, Mgt 03, live in Atlanta. Robert C. Grant, ME 07, is a plumbing engineer with Newcomb & Boyd in Atlanta. Grant previously was a project engineer with Emcon Services in Peachtree City, Ga. Mercedes Harris, ChE 02, announces the birth of son Harlem Jelani Stern in March. Harris, a business support and planning manager, received an MBA from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business in May. The family lives in South Windsor, Conn. Barbara Kathleen Hatch, ABiol 02, received a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in May. Louise Marburger Hedrick, Mgt 01, and John Hedrick, IE 99, announce the birth of a son, Trent John, on April 25. Trent joins his brother, Dolen, 2, at the family’s home in Windermere, Fla. Louise soon will return to the Coca-Cola Company. John is senior director of operations for 7-Eleven. Heather Baker Hoeller, Mgt 00, and her husband, Dan, announce the birth of a son, George Joseph, on Dec. 15. The family lives in Doylestown, Pa., where Hoeller is a fulltime mother. Daniel James, EE 00, and his wife, Cayman Percy James, CE 99, MS EnvE 01, announce the birth of their son, Ethan Rex, on Sept. 25, 2007. Danny is a contractor with AT&T’s operations and services development. A professional engineer, Cayman currently is working part time with CH2M HILL. The James family lives in Peachtree Corners, Ga. ROB FELT Great-great-grandfather Would Be Proud Carrie Harris, a descendant of Nathaniel E. Harris, who introduced legislation that led to the creation of Georgia Tech, graduated with honors Aug. 1 with a degree in biomedical engineering. The last member of the Harris family to graduate from Tech was Carrie’s great-grandfather, David W. Harris, who earned an electrical engineering degree in 1912.
