Karen Crutchfield Gallen, ME 96, and Kevin Gallen, Biol 96, announce the birth of a son, Grady John, on July 3. Grady joins brother Quinn, 2, at the family’s home in Naples, Fla. Karen is an engineering manager at Arthrex Inc., where Kevin is a product manager. Mark Gillespie, MS ME 98, and his wife, Trixy, of Odessa, Fla., announce the birth of a son, Connor William, on Sept. 18. Gillespie is a senior engineer with Progress Energy Florida Inc. Al Gogolin, CE 95, has been promoted to vice president of operations for Skanska USA Building Inc. He will manage the operations of the company’s special projects group in Atlanta, focusing on interior build-outs, small-base buildings and all task-oriented contracts. Gogolin previously served as director of business development. Catherine Falkner Goslow, EE 90, MS EE 91, PhD EE 98, and Harry Goslow, EE 92, announce the birth of twin daughters Lucia Marie and Sophia Marie on June 19. They join siblings Nellie, 2; Frannie, 4; John, 6; and Ray, 8, at the family’s home in Austell, Ga. Catherine is a full-time mother and home school teacher and Harry is lead electrical engineer with Hemisphere Engineering. Tracy Hitt, EE 98, has joined the Atlanta office of Fish & Richardson PC as an associate in the firm’s patent prosecution group. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Hitt was an account manager at Tektronix Inc. Baby Bound for Gridiron Glory? T here may not be a Georgia Tech jersey tiny enough to fit newborn Alex Hunt, but there may be a white and gold uniform in his future. Alexander Trotter Hunt V was born Dec. 9. His father, Trotter, ME 99, who played for the Yellow Jackets football team from 1995 to 1999, is a fourth-generation Georgia Tech alumnus and athlete. Hunts have been scoring on the field and on the court at the Institute for decades. Alex’s great-great-grandfather, Alexander Trotter Hunt Sr., who graduated with a degree in commerce in 1923, was a member of the Tech gridiron club from 1921 to 1923. Alexander Hunt Jr., IM 53, played football for three years and was a member of Bobby Dodd’s 1952 national championship team. Alexander Trotter Hunt III, known as “Trott,” was a member of the Yellow Jackets basketball team from 1972 to ’76 and received a mechanical engineering degree in 1977. “Tech is a Hunt family tradition,” said baby Alex’s grandmother, Karen. She also noted a greatuncle and distant cousins who attended Tech — that’s a total of nine alums in the family. “All are wondering, ‘Will he be a fifth-generation Georgia Tech athlete like his ancestors?’” Justin Honaman, IE 96, director of customer intelligence for Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., was named one of “40 Under 40 Up & Comers” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle in October. Honaman, who writes and sings country music in his free time, released his first CD in 2006. He now is working on a motivational book titled “1st and Ten” and a second album. Sue Huffman, IE 91, married Colin Blair on Sept. 7. Huffman is director of information technology for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. The couple live in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Philip D. Kelley Jr., IE 90, MS IE 95, has been named president and CEO of Salem Printing Co. in Winston-Salem, N.C., and has been appointed to serve on the board of trustees of Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte. He and his wife, Lynne Stapleton Kelley, Mgt 92, live in the WinstonSalem area with their two children, Reece, 7, and Philip Kelley III, 12. Tawnya Plummer Laughinghouse, ChE 96, received the Rising Star award at the National Women of Color’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Conference in Atlanta. The award is given annually to young women who have excelled quickly in the technology field and have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their workplaces and communities. She works at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, where she is the lead materials engineer for the booster separation motor aft closure assembly. She and her husband, Scott, have a 1-yearold child, Tai Senait. Julie Winn Lobree, Mgt 94, and her husband, Shawl, announce the birth of a daughter, Lily Elizabeth, on Oct. 22. The family lives on Lake Lanier in Dawsonville, Ga. Wallace B. McClure, EE 90, MS EE 91, has published his fourth book, “Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX,” a comprehensive introduction to ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX framework technologies that will help readers build richer, more dynamic Web site and Web applications. McClure is a software developer and president of SDI Inc. Joyce Acker Mueller, Mgt 94, and her husband, Todd, announce the birth of a daughter, Leah Jayne, on Sept. 7. Leah joins sister Anna, 3, at the family’s home in Ann Arbor, Mich. Acker Mueller is vice president and director of marketing for Digitas in the Detroit office. Bill Newhouse, EE 90, and his wife, Kay, announce the birth of a daughter, Esther Lucille, on Dec. 21. Esther joins brother Johnny, 4, at the family’s home in Rockville, Md. Newhouse recently joined the technical staff of the Defensewide Information Assurance Program in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration and Department of Defense Chief Information Officer and is co-chair of the National Coordination Office for Networking and Information Technology Research and Development Cyber Security and Information Assurance Interagency Working Group. Chris Nichols, ChE 95, and Ginger Wilde Nichols, ChE 00, of Thomasville, Ga., announce the birth of a son, Eli, on Nov. 9. Ginger is a fulltime mother and Chris is the area director for Young Life Thomas County in Thomasville. Chris O’Stean, CE 96, and his wife, Amy, announce the birth of a daughter, Caroline, on Oct. 2. O’Stean is a solutions consultant with RedPrairie Corp. The family lives in Decatur, Ga. Jeffrey S. Osterlund, MS AE 98, was awarded the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ 2007 Space Operations and Support Award for his participation in the space shuttle onorbit thermal protection tile repair team activities. Osterlund received the award, presented for outstanding efforts in overcoming space operations problems, in September. Kevin O’Toole, MatE 94, and his wife, Karen, announce the birth of a son, Colin Patrick, on Oct. 31. Colin joins brother Liam, 2, at the family’s home in Smyrna, Ga. Amy, now a full-time mother, was a quality manager for RedPrairie Corp. in Alpharetta, Ga. Adrian leads the East-area sourcing and procurement practice for Capgemini Consulting in Atlanta. The family lives in Sandy Springs, Ga. Dana Breig Probert, CE 98, and her husband, Alastair, announce the birth of a son, Kieran Ramsey Probert, on Sept. 18. Kieran joins sister Zoe at the family’s home in Millsboro, Del. Breig Probert, a civil engineering software consultant, has written a book, “Mastering Civil 3D 2008.” Noel Rappin, PhD CS 98, has been named director of Pathfinder’s Ruby on Rails Practice. A software engineer, Rappin is the author of “Professional Ruby on Rails.” Prior to joining Pathfinder, he led several Agile-based projects at Motorola as a senior software engineer and technical lead. Linda Ray, IE 94, MBA 06, has joined Nordson Corp. as global business development manager for new markets in the adhesive systems group. Ray will be responsible for identifying, assessing and managing new opportunities that leverage current and developing Nordson technologies across new markets worldwide.
