Tech Topics - Spring 2008 - (Page 8) MailCall Integrity, Sportsmanship Congratulations to football coach Paul Johnson. In college football today, winning seems to be everything. My hope for Georgia Tech, with great leadership, is the achievement of a program of excellence and unquestionable integrity and sportsmanship, all for the benefit of the student athletes who accept the challenge of playing for the Jackets. It’s all about the student athletes and their future. ROGER J. SUNDY, CE 58, MS CE 73 Pine Mountain, Ga. Up With White and Gold I agree with Robert Tidwell’s letter in the Winter 2007 TECH TOPICS in wishing that the football team still wore the traditional gold pants and white jerseys at home games. For that matter, why not on road games since the visiting team usually is required to wear white jerseys? I grew up on the Tech campus in the 1940s and 1950s and attended Tech from 1955 to 1960. Those gold-fronted pants and white jerseys to me were always the symbol of Tech, one of the few teams, I noticed, that actually had the school colors prominently displayed on its uniforms. I would love to see the return of those gold and white uniforms for home games, road games, economics, tradition or just for the hell of it. ED RAINEY, CERE 60 Kingswood, Texas if a book of the history of the Wreck Parade was ever published showing all of the entries or at least the three top entries for each year. I think this would be of great interest to all Georgia Tech alumni. ROBERT MOODY, CE 56 Charlottesville, Va. At times, we have a first-class football team that brings favorable attention to the school. Certainly all alumni realize that Georgia Tech will not have a winning team every year. We are OK with that. So why does the Tech administration continue to accept invitations to second-class (or lower) bowls when we have a third-class football team? Instead of bringing favorable attention to the school, it degrades the Georgia Tech reputation to do this, even if we Paul Johnson was named the Yellow Jackets’ head football coach in December. were to win. This is especially true in light of the recent Wall Street Journal article that shows that most schools lose money on the bowl trips. Our administrators should have the good sense and good grace to say, “No thanks, we will pass this year.” BOB DIVINE, IM 51, MS IM 53 Newport Beach, Calif. Wreck Record The Winter issue of TECH TOPICS about Homecoming 2007 showed some of the Ramblin’ Wreck Parade vehicles. It brought to mind the years I spent at Tech in the 1950s.
