The Hill was covered with runners, like Adrienne Hill and Marc D’Annunzio, at left, stretching before Buzz led the huge pack at the crack of the starting gun. Overall winners, who were feted during an awards presentation under the stands at Bobby Dodd Stadium, were, at right, Shannon Capps, who finished the race in 19 minutes and 20 seconds, and Ben Clarke, who flew over the finish line with a time of 16:29. Daring Young Alums Will Rappel from Skyscraper KRISTIN CONOVER G eorgia Tech graduates will gather at an Atlanta watering hole in June to root for fellow Yellow Jackets over food, drinks and music. It’s not an off-season football game. They’ll be watching the 400-foot descent of some daring young alums from the top of a Midtown Atlanta skyscraper. One hundred young alumni will get a chance to play Spiderman for a day in Rappel for Roll Call June 14 in celebration of the Alumni Association’s centennial. The activity is just one of many planned for the first Young Alumni Reunion Weekend June 13 to 16. Alumni who graduated from Georgia Tech between 1997 and 2007 may visit www.gtalumni.org/YAreunion for reunion details. Young alumni who raise $1,000 for Roll Call will have the opportunity to rappel down the Viewpoint, the Novare Group’s new 36-story building on Peachtree Street. A list of those planning to participate may be found at www.gtalumni.org/rappellers. Over the Edge, a special events company that provides ropes and technical consulting for nonprofit organizations throughout North America, will provide the service to the Alumni Association and train participants prior to the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Saturday of the reunion. Alumni afraid of heights may attend a rappel-watching party across the street from the Viewpoint on the patio of the Gordon Biersch Brewery, which will be reserved exclusively for members of the Tech community. Friends and family of those participating in Rappel for Roll Call also are invited. That evening, guests will head to the amenity deck of the Viewpoint, overlooking Midtown Atlanta, for a Return Rappellers will have the view of a lifetime from the top and side of the Viewpoint. to the Hive Party from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $20, and half of the proceeds will support a Young Alumni Councilsponsored student scholarship. Other reunion activities include gettogethers at Tech student haunts, tours of campus and a golf tournament. Young alumni will kick off the weekend with dinner and drinks June 13 at Rocky Mountain Pizza on Hemphill Avenue. There is no cost to attend, but dinner and drinks will be at participants’ expense. Even alums who just got out of Tech will notice changes to the evergrowing campus. On June 15, reunion guests will meet on the Tech Tower lawn to take part in guided campus tours from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Young Alumni Reunion Weekend activities will conclude with a golf tournament beginning at 9 a.m. June 16 at the Country Club of the South in Alpharetta, Ga. The fee is $125 per person or $500 for a team of four and includes green and cart fees, a gift packet and boxed lunch.
