Charles Nils Smith, EE 85, assistant vice president of the signal exploitation and geolocation division at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, has been selected Engineering Manager of the Year by the Engineering Management Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. John C. Wooten, IE 88, has accepted the position of senior logistics procurement manager at the Clorox Co. in Alpharetta, Ga. He and his wife, Lorie, live in Atlanta. Club Hits Fundraising Home Run The Washington, D.C., Georgia Tech Club played ball for a worthy cause — future Jackets. The club’s softball team played 16 games in the Capital Alumni Network and, in the process, raised nearly $2,500 for its scholarship endowment fund. Forrester Construction Co. pledged to donate $10 to the scholarship fund for each run scored by the team. In addition, six players contributed $10 for every win. The Tech alumni scored 195 runs and won five games. Another $200 was added to the pot at a banquet at the end of the season. Scholarships were awarded to two students from Virginia and one from Washington, D.C. 1990s Laura Mosley Breeding, CE 92, and Jason Breeding, CE 90, celebrated 15 years of marriage with a new baby and a new business. McMath Clark is Alumnus Winnefeld Takes Fleet Command V ice Admiral James A. Winnefeld Jr. accepted command of the U.S. 6th Fleet in a ceremony at Naval Support Activity Capodichino in Naples, Italy, on Sept. 21. Winnefeld, AE 78, also took over the positions of deputy commander of Naval Forces Europe, Joint Force Maritime Component commander Europe, commander of Strike and Support Forces NATO and allied commander of Joint Command Lisbon. James Winnefeld Jr. Winnefeld transferred to Naples from Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., where he served as director of the Joint Innovation and Experimentation Directorate. He graduated from Tech with high honors and received his commission from the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He has served aboard the USS John C. Stennis and the USS Enterprise.
