Leichliter, who received her master’s degree in systems engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology in May 2006, is an engineer with the Harris Corp. The couple live in Palm Bay, Fla. Sarah Beckenhauer Lightner, IE 01, and her husband, Chris, announce the birth of a daughter, Caroline Marie, on Oct. 12. Beckenhauer Lightner is a full-time mother. The family lives in Chapel Hill, N.C. Matthew Marcinek, CmpE 00, of Cleveland, earned an MBA from the Darden School of Business in May and joined Progressive as a product manager. Melanie Leigh Murray, ID 05, and James Will Eidson, Mgt 04, were married Aug. 11. Murray is employed by General Electric Capital Corp. and Eidson is a law clerk for Judge C. Arlen Beam of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. They live in Lincoln, Neb. Howard Ensign Simmons IV, HisTechSoc 06, has joined the faculty of The Pennington School, where he teaches mathematics. Since graduation, he has tutored students in math, physics and SAT preparation. Olufemi S. Sowemimo, ME 03, has joined Newcomb & Boyd. He recently received a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Clark Atlanta University, where he was named Graduate Student of the Year. Kimberly Wallace, IE 01, married David Gantt on Aug. 26. A solutions support engineer with Sprint, Wallace is pursuing her master’s degree in industrial/safety engineering at Auburn. The couple live in Woodstock, Ga. Khamisi N. Walters, ME 07, has joined Newcomb & Boyd. Walters previously was a project engineer intern with H.J. Russell & Company Construction Management. Laura Watson, HisTechSoc 03, Mgt 03, married David Golz, ABiol 03, Chem 03, on June 30. Watson works as a public school teacher and Golz works for the Georgia Crime Lab. The couple live in Atlanta. Kai Chi Wong, EE 06, has joined Newcomb & Boyd as a co-op employee. Wong is pursuing a master’s degree in engineering technology from Southern Polytechnic State. Deaths 1930s James Doyle Butler, Cls 39, of Sandy Springs, Ga., on Oct. 20. In 1942, he joined the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and landed at Utah beach in the Normandy invasion. After the war, he returned to Atlanta to work for his father's construction company. He and his brother, Roswell Butler, Cls 38, who died in June, both worked with Capital Construction, retiring in 1985. He received a sports scholarship to attend Georgia Tech, where he was a member of the football, basketball, track and swimming teams. A lifelong Tech sports fan, he attended nearly every football and basketball game, home and away. Frank C. Dunham, CE 34, of Atlanta, on June 16. Mr. Dunham retired from the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents. Frederick Edward Fuchs, GS 36, of Wilmington, N.C., on Oct. 22. He served in the Army during World War II and retired as a major. A member of Pi Kappa Phi as a student, he served on the Georgia Tech Advisory Board in the 1960s. Survivors include his son, Frederick E. Fuchs Jr., IM 70. Ben Z. Lubel, Cls 31, of New Orleans, on Aug. 1. A retired linen supply company owner and real estate investor, Mr. Lubel attended Georgia Tech in 1927 and graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1985. Mr. Lubel was a past president of B’Nai Brith Lodge. William E. Owens, Com 33, of Anderson, S.C., on April 2. He served as an Army captain during World War II. In 1949, he moved to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where he and his brother founded Owens Brothers Concrete Co., which now is part of Rinker Materials. At Georgia Tech, he was a member of Anak and Omicron Delta Kappa. Joe W. Rickett, IM 38, of Lawrenceville, Ga., on Oct. 17. A retired Navy Reserve captain, Mr. Rickett was a member of the Elks Club and Atlanta City Sales Club. Martin I. Teem Jr., Cls 35, of Marietta, Ga., on Aug. 9. Mr. Teem received the first meritorious service award issued by the state Department of Transportation commissioner and retired from the Georgia DOT in 1977 after 46 years of service. A lieutenant in the Army Reserve, he was called to active duty in 1940. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his contribution to the building of an airfield on Espiritu Santo and the Soldiers' Medal for rescuing the crewmen of a B-17 that failed to return after a mission. In 1946, he was promoted to colonel and served with the Army Reserve for the next 38 years. He contributed to many improvements in the transportation infrastructure of North Georgia, including the location of Highway 515. He also supervised the construction of the last 18 miles of Interstate 75 through and over Lake Allatoona. Following his retirement, he developed and operated a small cattle and poultry farm. He was director emeritus, past chairman of the board of directors and charter director of the North Georgia Area Planning & Development Commission, having served on the board for 28 years. He was a charter member of the Gilmer County Industrial Development Board, Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce and Georgia Tech Letterwinners Club. At Georgia Tech, he served in ROTC and played football and baseball. Memorials in his name may be made to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund. Survivors include his son, Martin P. Teem, IM 69. Jerome Braselton Withers Jr., Cls 36, of Atlanta, on Aug. 6. He joined his father at Withers, Gassett and Withers Machinery Co. He, his father and son raised cattle at White Oak Angus Farms in Meriwether County. He was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Army in 1942 and was discharged as a captain in 1945. A member of Pi Kappa Phi at Tech, he was a member of the Fulton County Post 140 American Legion. Samuel R. Young, CE 37, of Atlanta, on Aug. 4. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Corps as a pilot instructor. He retired in 1970 as a colonel. During his military career, he held senior positions in the construction of the North American Air Defense Command headquarters at Cheyenne Mountain, Colo., and landing bases in northern Thailand during the Vietnam War. He later worked with Robert & Company on the expansion plan for Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. At Tech, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and served as captain of the football and military bands. He also played at the Fox Theatre with his band, the Tech Ramblers. 1940s Jones Harber Aderhold Jr., CE 48, of Atlanta, on Sept. 3. In 1988, he retired as president of Aderhold Construction Co. After graduation, he joined his uncle’s firm, Griffin Construction Co. Following his uncle’s death, Mr. Aderhold and a business partner purchased the company and renamed it Ansley Aderhold Co., which later became Aderhold Construction, and built commercial and industrial projects nationwide. He served in Japan during World War II. George L. Albert, MS IE 49, of Castro Valley, Calif., on May 22. Mr. Albert was a retired real estate broker with Four Seasons real estate. J. William “Bill” Baros Jr., ChE 48, of Aventura, Fla., in September. He joined the Miami Rug Co., founded by his father, which he expanded into a group of 35 flooring stores throughout Florida and Georgia.
