What element do you consider to be most crucial to the success of your team, your golf facility, your business or your organization? In his best-selling book, The Speed of Trust, Stephen M. R. Covey tells us it is trust that has become a critical leadership competency in today’s business world. He has demonstrated time and again that trust is no longer considered a “soft skill,” but rather a “hard-edged” economic driver that can be learned and measured. As the cofounder and CEO of CoveyLink Worldwide, Covey has become one of the most sought-after advisers on trust, leadership, ethics and high performance. As the former CEO of the Covey Leadership Center, Covey directed it to become the largest leadership company in the world. It was through his strategic direction that his father’s book, Dr. Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, became one of the two most influential business books of the 20th century, according to CEO magazine. Under his guidance, the company nearly doubled its revenues to $110 million while increasing its profits by 12 times. Harvard-educated, Covey orchestrated with Franklin Quest to form the FranklinCovey organization. You’ll quickly experience the passion in which Covey delivers his message. His infectious style will keep you rapt with attention from beginning to end. 15th Annual Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition 8 – 11:30 am The Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition, facilitated by Leah Brilman, Ph.D., of the Turfgrass Breeders Association, will engage teams of up to four participants in areas of mathematics, turfgrass growth and development, and identification of soils, diseases, weeds, insects and turfgrass species. The exam will also focus on the business and financial management side of the superintendent’s profession. A study guide for this event can be found in the GCSAA Education Conference Web site starting in November. Prizes will be awarded to the top-scoring team. NEW! Winners will be announced at the Student/Superintendent Networking Reception Friday afternoon (formally held at the Student/Superintendent Employment Fair and Networking event). Also, this competition is for undergraduates only. Individual member registration is necessary; see registration form A-2. Teams will sign in together on site. Did you know? Carnival Colors Purple represents justice, green stands for faith, and gold signifies power. Rex, the King of Carnival, selected them in 1872 for his first parade. While they were probably chosen simply because they looked good together, Rex assigned a meaning to each in his 1892 parade, entitled “Symbolism of Colors” .
