Test your mettle against the best golfers in the golf course management profession in the GCSAA National Championship, a 54-hole stroke-play event to be held at Kiva Dunes Golf Club. Perched between the majestic interplay of land and sea, Kiva Dunes has long been recognized all over the world as one of golf’s best and most unique challenges in the United States. Kiva Dunes developer Jim Edgemon shares a love of links golf with his longtime friend, former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate. That common love led the two men into a partnership that became Kiva Dunes. The National Championship will be capped at the first 100 entrants, and you must have a verified handicap index not exceeding 5.0 to participate. Play begins each day at 9 am with 1st and 10th tee starting times. Please note: If you participate in the National Championship, you are not eligible to compete in the Golf Classic and vice versa. Also, you are not eligible to play in the Four-Ball Mixer. The overall winner of any flight, including the National Championship, must be an amateur – professionals are eligible to win second place. In this annual event, you will play with a partner, with each of you playing your own ball. The lower score between you and your partner will be the score for the hole. If one of you fails to complete the play of a hole, there is no penalty. Up to four (4) divisions will be available. Four-Ball Mixer courses will have a shotgun start. To prepare for the competition, you can take advantage of practice rounds on the four Golf Classic courses on Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31. A point quota for each round is established by subtracting your verified handicap index from 36. The maximum allowable handicap index for point system scoring is 30. If you have a handicap index over 30, you will be assigned the minimum of 6 points per day. The quota scoring system point values: • 0 Double Bogey or worse • 1 Bogey • 2 Par • 3 Birdie • 4 Eagle • 5 Double Eagle Taking your point total for the round and subtracting it from the quota for the round will calculate the net score. To register for the Four-Ball Mixer, mark the appropriate box on the registration form and indicate whether you have a partner or would like to be assigned one from the pool of players. You and your partner cannot exceed a combined handicap of 45. Only one superintendent/pro may play on a Four-Ball Mixer team, and you must be registered in the two-day GCSAA Golf Classic to compete in this event. Groupings and hole assignments will be available at on-site registration – starting times and pairings will not be available prior to the event or distributed over the phone. “ 72 I played in the Golf Classic, and the people I played with were some of the nicest I’ve met. It was some of the most fun I’ve had playing golf in a long time. — Assistant Superintendent Bunker Hills Golf Course, Coon Rapids, Minn.
