Trick or Heat

WELCOME TO THE SECOND ISSUE OF GEEK! We're getting into October, the leaves are turning and there's a
chill in the air... unless you're in Southern California, where we're still a few heat waves short of autumn weather.
Fortunately, this fall still means some treats you can find no matter what part of the country you're in: namely,
Halloween scares and lots and lots of superheroes. In fact, we're in the middle of a superhero renaissance where
movies and TV shows are concerned, and DC Comics, the most venerable producer of men and women in tights
on the planet, is currently ensuring that we can't get through a day without seeing a superhero somewhere.
DC's biggest gamble right now is Justice League, the long-awaited team-up of some of the comic company's
most famous and beloved characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash. With Zack
Snyder, the man who established the style of the DC movie universe with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman:
Dawn of Justice, now sidelined, Justice League is being finished and partially reshot by no less than Joss Whedon,
creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (more on that in a minute) and the man behind DC's main competitor, Marvel's
blockbusters The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
How's that going to turn out? You'll get a hint in our exclusive
coverage of the movie, and we couldn't help but combine that
with previews of all the DC Comics superhero shows returning
on the CW, including The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of
Tomorrow and Arrow.
If you want to go from bright and flashy to dark and scary,
Halloween's the perfect time to catch up
on AMC's The Walking Dead (we'll help you theorize about who'll survive the new season
by researching what's transpired in the original Robert Kirkman comic books), celebrate
the series finale of MTV's Teen Wolf, cringe in fear at a brand new Chucky movie or look
back at Joss Whedon's beloved TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (see, we told you
we'd get back to that) in an exclusive excerpt of a brand new book on the series
from GEEK contributors Mark. A. Altman and Edward Gross.
We haven't forgotten video games: You'll find previews of new fall titles like
Assassin's Creed Origins, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Middle-earth: Shadow of
War, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and others, plus a dive into PC gaming with
Destiny 2 and a look behind Star Wars: Battlefront II. Remember, you can find just
about everything mentioned in this issue at your local Walmart. That should keep
you busy until our next issue in December...
