THE FINAL STAGE OF REBOOTING LARA
CROFT, the Tomb Raider, which began with
the video game back in 2013, hit theaters in
March with a new film starring Oscar winner
Alicia Vikander in the title role. Tomb Raider is
now headed to Blu-ray and 4K where its visual
pleasures can be appreciated on your TV.
In the film, Lara, attempting to solve the
mystery of her father's disappearance, sets off
to his last known location: a mythical island
that lies off the coast of Japan, and serves as
the home for a tomb that could hold all her
answers. There's lots of action and adventure
along the way, which works out well for
Vikander: This project allows her to achieve her
personal goal of starring in a Hollywood action
blockbuster. And that's for someone who has
already achieved a lot.
Born in 1988 in Sweden, Vikander is a former
dancer who pursued acting as a child. It began
paying off when she starred in the TV drama
Andra Avenyn and then, two years later, made
her feature film debut in Pure. Ex Machina
(2014) raised her profile yet more and The
Danish Girl (2015) saw her win the Academy
Award for best supporting actress. Despite
these successes, Tomb Raider should elevate
her to a whole new level.
GEEK: What drew you to Tomb Raider? What

was it that made you say, "I must do this"?
ALICIA VIKANDER: First of all, I love film. I
have a mother who's a stage actress who, as
I grew up, introduced me to film and a lot of
European art house movies from a young age.
So I've always loved going to the cinema. I
think adventure films were maybe my favorite
genre. I saw Indiana Jones I don't know how
many times. I loved The Mummy series when I
was growing up, and the "Tomb Raider" game.
I have a personal experience of being, I don't
know, between 10, 11, 12 when I walked in
my dad's friend's living room and they had a
PlayStation, which I didn't have in my house.
They were playing the "Tomb Raider" game,
which was the first time I'd ever seen a female
