Celebrating the Georgia lifestyle GEMC ® You forgot my favorite movies M A G A Z I N E Thank you for your magazine, especially the calendar, which helps to keep our family informed of upcoming Georgia events. In your recent article “Coming to a set near you” in which you highlighted movies filmed in Georgia [see January 2010, page 16], I was surprised that you did not include three of my favorite movies: “Fireproof,” “Facing the Giants” and “Flywheel,” all of which were filmed in Albany, with writers, actors and producers from Georgia. These films were not only done with excellence, but they also have had a positive influence on people around the country. These movies and the Georgians who worked on them are definitely ones Georgia can be proud of! —Margaret Hawkins, Calhoun Editor’s note: Margaret, thanks for your note, and be sure to check out our December 2008 story, “Georgia’s giant-killer” [page 16], about Albany’s Sherwood Pictures and the movie “Fireproof.” How to get in touch Letters to the editor: We welcome your letters! I recently read your cover story about making films in Georgia. This past year I had the fortunate experience to work as an extra and standin on many of the films referenced in your story, including four days on “The Blind Side.” Each project was an education in what takes place behind the scenes of the film industry. The preparation and attention to detail were amazing. I especially appreciated the positive affirmations from cast and crew members about our state and how welcomed they felt here by the various communities. As a native Georgian, I am so proud that once again natural reGEORGIA MAGAZINE Advertising: Contact Laurel George, (404) 541-0628, or Laine Wood, (770) 289-5700, or (800) 544-4362 (in Georgia).
