My husband and I went to the lighthouse, while my mother and grandmother enjoyed the stop at the beach. That afternoon, we drove on to St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, and spent the night in Kingsland so we could catch the ferry to Cumberland Island the next morning. I guess I liked the sand, because up until I had some health problems, I would go every year. Even after my dad passed away, I still tried to go back. My husband, Robert, and I and our friends visited this laid-back little island a few years ago. We lodged in a lovely beach house one block from the ocean and endless, sandy beaches. We would rise early to watch the breathtaking view of the sun coming up, the reflection shining down on the gentle lapping waves of the ocean. We also visited historic Savannah, located 15 minutes away.
