Categories included barbecue and hot sauces, confections, dairy products, meat products, snack foods, and jams, jellies and sauces. Entries were judged based on flavor, best use of Georgia ingredients, Georgia theme, unique or innovative qualities, commercial appeal and originality. Flint Energies Director David Cleveland’s Cleveland Organics won first place in two categories—snack foods and confections. Williams and Cleveland were presented their awards by Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black and Gov. Nathan Deal. Bill VErNEr / GEorGiA EmC GEMC Hunger Walk/Run 2011 Apprenticeship Business Partner of the Year oglethorpe Power Corp. was named the 2011 Floyd County Schools Apprenticeship Business Partner of the Year for its work with the school system’s Youth Apprenticeship program. The award was presented at the April 5 meeting of the Floyd County Board of Education. 14 Team Georgia EmC raised $1,395 through team gifts and pledges from family and friends, exceeding their goal of $1,250. To date, the event has raised more than $400,000 to support hunger relief. Twenty-seven years ago, Hunger Walk/Run began as a grassroots movement in response to local and global hunger. On March 13, associates from Georgia Electric Membership Corp. and Georgia Transmission Corp., both of Tucker, joined more than 12,000 other walkers and runners at the 5K event through downtown Atlanta.
