EMC crews took four of the top ﬁve spots in the Overall Journeyman Team division: Carroll EMC in Carrollton, Cobb EMC in Marietta, Walton EMC in Monroe and GreyStone Power in Douglasville ﬁnished ﬁrst, second, third and ﬁfth, respectively. Apprentice linemen who won in the EMC division include: First place, Ryan Hall—Coach Corey Bowden, Flint Energies; second place, Jonathan Brooks—Coach Kevin Underwood, Walton EMC; and third place, Adam Simmons—Coach Brandon Waters, Walton EMC. Carroll EMC in Carrollton celebrated Earth Day on April 22 by wearing “Think Green” T-shirts, planting fruit trees by the cooperative’s walking track and collecting old batteries and magazines for recycling. Employees also brought in old logoed shirts to repurpose and give to new employees. Employees’ children participated in a coloring contest in honor of Earth Day as well. Each year, Carroll EMC honors Earth Day by participating in Keep Carroll Beautiful’s E-Recycling event, helping local schools with Junior Solar Sprint races and encouraging employees and members to do their part to save energy around their homes. In April 2012, Carroll EMC donated two carloads of items (employees bring items from home to recycle as well). Co-op employees Carole Thompson and Taylor Brown volunteered at the event. During this drive, KCB collected 63,496 pounds of electronic waste, which is recycled and therefore diverted from landﬁlls. 16 KELLY HESTER / CARROLL EMC Honoring Earth Day and the environment Last October, Carroll EMC sponsored the KCB E-Recycling Event and donated two truckloads of items.
