Washington EMC honored with food pantry donation

Membership Corp. (EMC) recently donated $500 to the Christian
Life Center of Washington County, a
food pantry, in honor of Sandersvillebased Washington EMC, which was
named EMC of the Year in 2016.
The award is part of the annual

Georgia EMC Community Service and
Volunteerism Awards, which honor
work in communities by electric
cooperatives, their employees and
members of their boards of directors.
Each year Georgia EMC makes a donation on behalf of the EMC winner.
The Christian Life Center serves as

a resource to residents of Washington
County who are in need of food. The
center relies on donations from local
individuals, businesses, churches and
civic groups. All workers are volunteers, and the First Baptist Church of
Sandersville provides the facility for
the pantry, which serves more than
1,500 adults and 400 children.

EMCs unite to fight hunger

mployees of the Tucker-based
Family of Companies-Georgia
Electric Membership Corp. (EMC),
Oglethorpe Power Corp., Georgia
System Operations Corp. and Georgia
Transmission Corp.-participated in
the Atlanta Community Food Bank's
Hunger Walk/Run for the eighth consecutive year on March 5.
More than 50 employees, family
members and friends joined about
13,000 other walkers and runners to
step up against hunger. Team "Georgia's EMCs" was a corporate sponsor of the event and raised $3,235
through participant registrations and
individual donations, all benefiting
the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
Because every $1 raised buys more
than $9 of food, the Family of Companies provided $29,115 in food.
This year's event raised more
than $550,000 for a problem that affects more than 1.8 million Georgians.

standing relationships with the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA),
the eight regional food banks and individual food banks in communities.

On March 1, Georgia EMC's Jenna Saxon and Rachael Young joined
representatives of the regional food
banks at the state Capitol in Atlanta
for the Hunger Champion Lunch. At
this gathering, GFBA members remind policymakers of the 130 million
pounds of food that they coordinate
and deliver annually.

Georgia EMC, Oglethorpe Power Corp. and Georgia Transmission
Corp. also sponsor the Wild Hog
Supper, the unofficial kickoff of the
legislative session each year. The supper, which is organized by the GFBA,
also serves as a canned food drive.
