"Kan 1" and "Kan 2." The art tells stories of hope, peace and transformation in this 200-acre linear park.
The best-known sculpture is
Xavier Medina Campeny's dramatic
"Homage to King," featuring the profile of Martin Luther King Jr. Made of
cut and rolled plate steel, the piece
serves as a gateway into Atlanta's historic civil-rights district and its mother
lode of significant sites.
"This piece connects with people
by providing a visual narrative of
such a key component of Atlanta's
history, in one of Atlanta's most historically rich parks," says Jeremee
Prioleau, public art project coordinator for the Atlanta Office of Cultural
Affairs. "This piece illustrates Martin
Luther King Jr. with his arm outstretched, welcoming all to the Martin
Luther King Jr. National Historic Park."
